City Experience

On Thursday 25 July, I went to on an excursion to experience Melbourne with Ms Chang and my peer support buddy Amy Sin. We took the train to the City at 9:08am. The moment I got off the train I saw the Yarra River.

We crossed the river and walked about 10 minutes and arrived at the first landmark: Eureka Skydeck which is the tallest building in Melbourne at 297 metres. In less than 40 seconds we arrived at level 88 in the fastest lifts in the Southern Hemisphere. The top 10 levels are made from 24 carat gold plate.

Then we took the tram to the Shrine of Remembrance. The Shrine of Remembrance was built in 1927 and completed in 1934. It is a war memorial to honour the people of Victoria who served in the World Wars. Soldiers who died in a World War are worthy of being respected. They fought for the freedom of the country. “Let all men know that this is Holy Ground.” I hope that peace will last forever far from war.

After that we took a tram to the Emporium to have some food. Then we walked to Melbourne Central shopping centre. We took the tram to  Melbourne Chinatown to eat lunch. It is very boring maybe because it is during the daytime. Perhaps I need to go again in the evening. We didn’t find anything to eat. At last we went to the Melbourne Central Shopping Centrr. Amy and I ate the Korean food. It was delicious.

Then we walked around Melbourne Central. Melbourne Central opened in 1991. There was an office tower, 211 metres high and opposite is a very big clock, which plays music on the hour but we missed it.

After lunch, we took the tram to St Paul’s Cathedral. This was a very beautiful and sacred place. Across the road was Flinders Street Station. Flinders Street Station is the biggest and the first railway station in Melbourne. It was opened on 12 September 1854.

Our final destination was Hosier Lane to view the beautiful street graffiti on the walls full of bright colours done by talented street artists.

After this excursion I have fallen deeply in love with Melbourne. Now that I have seen some of the landmarks of Melbourne and how to get into the city, I expect I will travel more to the city to explore it more. Thank you to Amy who helped me during the excursion and told me about Melbourne.

Thank you to Ms Chang for taking us on this excursion where I learned so much about Melbourne.
