What an amazing way to spend the last hour of the last day of Term 3!

Exercise = healthy = fun!

All students ran their way around the school, taking on obstacles whilst running through coloured powder and ending up very colourful indeed. What a great result for our student led promotion team made up of a group of keen House Captains. They wanted to do a different fun run so they listened to the voice of their fellow students, researched the idea and then promoted the event for the month or so prior to the event under the guidance of Miss Jo. We are excited and thankful to families who raised money to help contribute to the development of sporting opportunities at school. This was certainly loads of fun and we're sure given its success, we could certainly do this again in the future.

3/4 NETBALL GRAND FINAL

We are pleased to announce and congratulate our Ripper Rockets who won their Netball Grand Final against St Kilda!

ATHLETICS

We wanted to congratulate our students who represented the school at either Districts or Division Athletics whilst Miss Jo was away. We thank Miss Zoe for taking this on in Miss Jo's absence last term and who kept her up-to-date with the results. Students are growing in strength and our performance is certainly improving and becoming more noticed at District. Well done to everyone who participated and represented Ripponlea in a tremendous light. We would also like to stretch this congratulations to Natan Qu (5/6B) who is off to Regionals on Thursday 17th October (week 2) to compete in the Long Jump. He broke the District record for his age group and then went on to dominate at Divisions.

Good luck Natan! We can’t wait to see how you go.

MELBOURNE STARS TRUCK

The Melbourne Stars Cricket truck will be on site on Thursday 16th October in the morning before school. There will be a chance for some bowling and hitting practice in the inflatable batting area along with some prize giveaways and information about the upcoming cricket season. Get to school and come along to see what this is all about!

NEWS FROM THE ART ROOM

A short report this week as we are in the midst of our projects in the art room (Miss Zoe's clothing is covered in clay, ink and paint!) and will post some pictures on the blog and in next fortnight’s newsletter.

Miss Zoe's art teaching pedagogy at RPS is informed by different art education philosophers, many of whom shape the practices of her as an art teacher. She believes there are 4 key areas to teaching art that are important for students to experience: art production; art history; art appreciation; aesthetics. In addition, it’s important for students to appreciate art making for a purpose whether this be function, exhibition or self-expression.

Eight young artists from Ripponlea entered the Glen Eira City Council Youth Art Exhibition, currently on at the town hall. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to demonstrate a commitment to their artistic practice but also a way to gain feedback and recognition for their studies in art education. Congratulations to Archie Austin whose artwork was judged the best in his age group for a sculpture he’d created for the exhibition.

"Archie’s sculpture won the Primary Category Award (ages 5 - 12) at last night’s  '2019 Youth Art Expo', at the Glen Eira City Council Town Hall.

As well as the title certificate he also won a $200 Westfield voucher.

The judges loved his sculpture, drawings, photography and the story behind his cardboard box man."

The other young artists who represented Ripponlea in the exhibition should be applauded: Amelia Neville, Beth Aarons, Gemma Roberts, Ashlee Jeffares and the following students FROM FOUNDATION, Tuesday Johnston, Samuel Bagnato and Jasper Risby.

The exhibition continues at the Glen Eira Town Hall until October 27th and is open on weekends. It is an inspiring collection of work from artists of the now and the future!

One last thing: please note the Colgate collection has now concluded . We saved close to 300 plastic toothbrushes and toothpaste containers from going into landfill.

Well done to everyone who collected!
