Science 8H3:             Virtual Reality Lung Dissection

As part of the Year 8 Biology unit, students have been studying Cells and Body Systems.

The students had the opportunity to participate in a virtual reality lung dissection. They were able to observe healthy human lungs and compare this to a smoker’s lung. They gained insight into the structure of the lungs and furthered their understanding of the respiratory system.

Below are some samples of the student feedback:

It was so fun and engaging.”

It made learning fun and interesting!”

It was cool how there was lots of things to look at.”

You can look at the lungs from a 360 degree perspective.”

You could look at things that you could not see in real life.”

We could compare healthy and unhealthy human lungs.”

Sydenham Chess Challenge

Each Tuesday lunchtime, over the past two terms, an eager and talented group of chess players has met to challenge each other, develop their skills and enjoy each other’s company.

Our Sydenham Chess Challenge is a wonderful example of our young people interacting across four year levels over a common interest.

We are delighted to announce the results of this competition, with the winners taking home gift cards and trophies (thanks to our library) but everyone receiving a certificate and luncheon. The results of the Sydenham Chess Challenge are:

1st Joshua Year 9

2nd Ed Win, Year 10

3rd Rory, Year 9

1st female Selin, Year 8

Next week the group will enjoy a delicious lunch after matching their wits against our visiting chess master, Leon.

Next term Chess Club at Sydenham continues mainly with social chess so it is a great time for anyone interested in learning how to play chess to come along.
