Garden Stakes

My name is Samantha and together with Jonathan we were asked to design and create garden stakes for the Gem Ward at Sunshine Hospital. The Gem Ward Garden is a safe, interactive garden for patients suffering from Dementia. We found the designs for the stakes online, we then drew the designs onto wood and cut them out using a jigsaw. Next was to paint them in bright colours. I enjoyed painting them and being creative.

RC World Championships

Copperfield's very own Year 11 student, Cameron has recently taken his professional remote control car racing to the next level. He was most recently the top qualifier in both his cars and came first in both pro buggy and pro truck, taking out the Victorian driver series.

Cameron also spends his free time writing for the sport and has shown drastic improvement throughout the year in our English class.

The next exciting step for Cameron is not only year 12 but after qualifying 3rd in Australia, he will now represent Australia at the Professional RC World Championships in China this November.

"Congratulations Cameron, and good luck!"

Senior VCAL Community Project For Personal Development

Our Group were given a task to do a High Tea for the Sunshine hospital volunteers and hospital patients. We first met with our external mentor Karen Haufe to discus and plan the High Tea, every Friday we would come and visit her and plan the High Tea. While visiting her we agreed on having a royal theme because we thought it would be classy and formal. The next stage was to develop a budget list, the reason creating a budget list was to help keep track of our spending and to be efficient with funds. Yom was in charge of this budget list. We sent out invitations to 30 hospital volunteers.

The next step was to Started planning menus, table arrangements, themes, music, entertainment and invites the people who were in charge was all of the group members such as Yom, Jacob, Zac, Joseph, Alisa, Dinh and Emily.

The venue when chose was the Study Centre and the day before the event each team member helped set up the venue with set up the room with table decorations, music, slide show, hot beverages and Food.

Delegated roles:

Yom - Budgeting. In in this role I was responsible for purchasing and researching prices for products. I helped in the games

Jacob -Music and visual effects. I was in charge of the music and slide shows for the High Tea. I was the MC also for the day

Emily - Helped with research and table decorations for the High Tea

Alisa - Organised games and entertainment for the High Tea event

Dinh - Design and cooking. Organising food to served and presented and designing place mats.

Zac - Group leader. Over saw the whole project to make sure everyone was on task.

Joseph - Menu and catering. Was in charge of researching the different types of food

We really enjoyed the community aspect of the project. Providing an opportunity for all of the wonderful Sunshine hospital volunteers to enjoy themselves and to feel appreciated by all of us.

Year 12 VCAL Complex Community Projects

On Friday August 18th, the Yr. 12 VCAL students presented their complex community projects to community members, staff , students and Sunshine Hospital mentors. Yr. 12 VCAL students have spent several months working on a range of products and events from Sunshine Hospital, including, a book shelf, activity boards for dementia patients, mosaics and the High Tea event for the volunteers of the hospital. Students have also helped refurbish the emergency department entrance, with 3 narrative panels created. All the projects were aimed at brightening up the lives pf the patients, in wards including palliative care, rehabilitation and Secure GEM ward. I would like to say a big thank you to the Yr. 12 VCAL students on their amazing efforts during the presentations and all the hard work that has gone into organising these projects.

VCAL Students Tour Sunshine Hospital

Year 12 VCAL projects have come to an end and the students were given the opportunity to tour the Sunshine Hospital to see their projects in their final locations.  It is wonderful to see such professional projects ranging from mosaics, furniture for the cubby house, bird boxes, donation barrel, seating and art work.  We would like to say a big thank you to Jo Spence from Western Health, as well as all the Sunshine Hospital mentors who volunteered their time. Once again, we are proud of the Year 12 VCAL students who have put so much time and effort into their work.  Working with community partners is an invaluable experience.  Students learn life long skills and are given the opportunity to work with many different people thus preparing them for life beyond school.

Thank you and congratuations go to Lorenne Clarke for her tireless work in leading the team.

Gorton Young Leaders Award 2017

On Monday September 18, two of our senior students were honoured to receive the Gorton Young Leaders Award for 2017.  Sarah Broederlow and Brandon Lee were presented the award by the Honourable Brendon O’Connor, who is our local Federal Parliamentarian. Sarah and Brandon were nominated by teachers at the school for their outstanding leadership in relation to their VCAL community projects over their Year 11 and 12 years.  The leadership they demonstrate includes being well organised, ensuring other students are fully involved, enthusiasm and commitment, particularly when things become difficult and communicating not only with their peers, but also with mentors and community members involved in their projects.  Both students have developed ongoing relationships with adults beyond school due to the dedication they have shown during VCAL.  Brandon was inspired by the work of Hope St and Sarah by the work done by the Sunshine Hospital.  Sarah is also well known for her singing and ability to command an audience; she has helped many other community projects by performing to their audiences. Copperfield College is proud of these students and would like to congratulate them for their integrity and commitment.
