RU OK? day Sydenham

RU OK? day was celebrated this week at the College with the SRC doing a wonderful job looking after students with hot chocolates and a chance to start a conversation. It is not always easy balancing life as a young person or an adult.  If you think something is worrying a family member or friend, start a conversation to see if they’re okay. If they're not, all you need to do is listen, and then help them think about what can be done to make life easier. For more information on how to start a conversation that could change a life visit ruok.org.au There is also a wellbeing worker on each campus (Kellie at Sydenham, Judy at Delahey and Mary at Kings Park) if your young person needs some extra support.

“Wear It Purple” day.

Thanks to our school community for supporting the acceptance and celebration of difference on “Wear It Purple” day last week. The day aims to foster supportive, safe and accepting environments for everyone including young people of LGBTIQ identity. The SRC did a great job in running the event featuring a photo booth, spinning wheel, purple drinks and a jelly bean guessing competition. Congratulations to Kassandra from year 7 who is now the proud recipient of 827 jelly beans after making the closest guess at 832.

R U Ok? day  Kings Park

This term the SRC made R U Ok day our major fundraiser. Held on September 14th we had a casual clothes day, merchandise for sale and a canvas for all the students to sign to help spread the message of checking in with our friends and family to see if they are ok. Fundraising from this event supports R U Ok day and Beyond Blue. A big thank you to everyone who contributed!

“Wear It Purple Day”

“Wear It Purple Day” in support of LGBTIQ Youth at Delahey Campus was held on Friday, 1st September.  Students selected from a range of badges which indicated their willingness to be a friend or ally of their LGBTIQ peers and 500 free purple cupcakes were distributed to students outside the Study Centre at Recess.  A Minus 18 You Tube clip depicting vignettes of the experiences of various LGBTIQ young people was screened in the Study Centre at Recess and Lunch Time.
