USA Basketball Tour in Full Swing!

The USA basketball tour has been a great success so far, with students still currently enjoying their overseas adventure. There has been plenty of snow and the students are thoroughly enjoying themselves!

Here's a recent blog post from Jye and Tom:

"Today was an early start for all of us, as we went to school with our homestay hosts! We got to experience the really early private school buses, with most of the American school kids sleeping on the way. We got to the school at around 7:40am, and while we were waiting to get picked-up by the teachers we played video games in the school lounge and shot around in the gym.

We had a short drive for lunch and had sandwiches, then went to Georgetown University for a tour. We got to see the sporting facilities and watched the girls basketball team train.

After Georgetown we had a fairly long drive to our games against Spencerville Adventis Academy. Both teams had close nail-biting wins! The 2s went into double overtime and the 1s won by 8 points."

The USA Basketball Tour runs every second year and is an option to all students in Year 9 and Year 10. This year's tour takes students to Boston, New York, Washington DC and Los Angeles for basketball games, sight seeing and homestays with host families.

We look forward to welcoming home our dedicated teachers and students upon their return next week. Have fun and stay warm everyone!

Year 8 Civics & Citizenship Program

This week the Year 8 students participated in the three-day Civics and Citizenship program. The program aims to introduce students to the Australian voting system and become more engaged with the ever-growing global world in which they live.

In small groups, students worked collaboratively and took on the role of one of over 30 countries. Each country was allocated a resource pack that represented the country's access to certain materials. From these, and through activities such as debating and negotiating, students had to create an embassy for their country.

On Tuesday DSC held Olympic events in the Performance Centre, with Denmark taking out the finals!

Year 7 REACH Connection Workshops

Reflection by Charlotte K (7D)

REACH is a program for young people in years 5-12. On Friday, 13 December a REACH program was held at school to help students understand themselves and others better. In the 90 minute session we played games that showed us that many people experience similar problems to our own. We also played games that made us open-up to peers who we wouldn’t usually talk to or consider to be similar to us.
