Krispymas at Krispy Kreme!

On Friday, 29 November a fabulous group of enthusiastic students performed as part of the Bulleen Krispy Kreme Krispymass Lights on Event.

Coco, Elina, Jess, Gabby, Vanessa, Nanki and myself sang our way through an hour of carols as part of the entertainment leading up to the official turning on of the Krispymass Lights.

We were even joined by the biggest Santa’s Helper that we have ever seen for a couple of pieces.

Congratulations to the girls involved on a fabulous performance and thank you to the parents for making it possible to be involved in the event. I hope that everyone involved in the event enjoyed their Krispy Kreme rewards.

Hired Instruments

If you have been hiring an instrument please make sure that it is returned by the end of the year for checking. If you want to take it home over the holidays you will need to get a Holiday Hire Form from Mr Dean in the music office.

Final Performances of the Year

Soundworks has been very busy in the last weeks of term.

This week they had two performances as well as a combined rehearsal with a local primary school orchestra.

On Monday after school, students were joined for their usual rehearsal by Doncaster Gardens Primary School Orchestra. They came to practice four pieces in preparation for their combined performance at the Doncaster Gardens Community Night.

The Doncaster Gardens students walked up to our school in 37 degree heat and arrived very hot but enthusiastic and they weren’t overawed by playing with the big kids.

The students blended well and the combined bands of almost 60 students made a very impressive sound. That same evening, Soundworks students returned to school to play at the 2020 Year 7 Parent Information Night.

This was very well received and demonstrated clearly how far students can progress in less than a year of music lessons and rehearsals.

On Thursday night, Soundworks made their own way to Doncaster Gardens Primary School and played the songs that they had been rehearsing together in front of the Doncaster Gardens Primary School community. Thank you to Mr Ondaatje for rehearsing Soundworks right up until the last weeks of term and taking on two after-hours performances in one week.

A combined Wind Symphony and Concert Band ensemble as well as a combined String Orchestra and Stringworks ensemble, performed on Tuesday for the 2020 Year 7 students on their orientation day.

Over two periods the bands played and demonstrated the instruments before the students helped the instrumental staff to test the new Year 7s suitability for all the instruments we offer at Doncaster.

The 2020 Year 7s had the opportunity to try violins, violas, cellos, flutes, clarinets, saxophones, trumpets, French horns, trombones, euphoniums, tubas, guitars and percussion before writing down their three preferences to learn next year. All Year 7 students have the opportunity to learn an instrument at Doncaster and those who put in preferences will be emailed offers this week.

If you haven’t received an offer and are still interested in learning an instrument please contact Nick Dean by calling the school or email him at Dean.Nicholas.J@edumail.vic.gov.au
