Year 10 Work Experience

Our Year 10 students have been provided with the opportunity to experience a week in the working world by participating in a Work Experience program during May. The program provides students with important insights into possible career choices, and provides first-hand experience of what it’s like to turn up for work every day, sometimes with a long commute. I received quite a bit of feedback that students were quite exhausted from working ‘full days’. For many students the experience has confirmed their thoughts about a possible career path while for others it has opened their eyes to some completely new possibilities. These are all important insights prior to making VCE subject selections later this year. Students successfully applied for their own work placements including hospitals, law firms, photography studios, veterinary surgeries and even one at the Bureau of Meteorology! The highest proportion of students worked within education and child care, nearly 25% of all placements were within primary schools, kindergartens or child care centres.
