Principal's Message

Dear parents, families & guardians

On Monday 13 May the school held the House Performance Competition which is always an exciting event for our students. The guest adjudicator was Alicia Gardiner, an Australian actress who has performed in numerous television, film and theatre productions. Her television credits include Redfern Now, Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, Jack Irish: Bad Debts, Last Man Standing, Kath & Kim, Dogwoman, The Secret Life of Us, and as the lead role Carmel McCaffery in the ABC miniseries Queen, Kat, Carmel & St Jude. Theatre credits include the musical Mamma Mia. Alicia is probably best known to Australian audiences as nurse Kim Akerholt, after being part of all seasons of the award-winning show Offspring

As Education Week draws to a close, I am reminded of all of the engaging activities that we offer as a school community.  The various Domains have provided a range of experiences for the students over the last week and I will highlight just a few of these in my message today.

Education Week kicked off with the Year 12 Theatre Studies Production and the Year 8 Camp. The Stringfest Excursion took place on Wednesday and our students were given the opportunity to rehearse and perform in a large string orchestra/ensemble setting and to work with different conductors and string players.

Today 20 of our students attended the World Vision Student Leadership Conference. The World Vision Youth Conference is an immersive one-day experience designed to inspire and empower current and emerging student leaders to become active global citizens and a voice for justice in the world.

We are in the second week of the NAPLAN online testing.  This is a relatively new way of delivering the NAPLAN tests to Year 7 and Year 9 students and I give my thanks to Rochelle Dickson, Jonathan Hall, Phil Pearson and his IT team, Fiona Faulkes, Wendy Eman and Marcie Konsoulas who have streamlined the process so that there is minimal interruption to the school program.

School Council has given approval for the selection of the company that will upgrade our oval to include an all-weather running track, long jump pit, triple jump pit and a high jump pit. We hope to commence work before 1 July.

Our STEAM teachers have had their first consultation meeting with the Architect and will meet again tonight. We look forward to sharing the plans with the community in the near future.

The school held its first “Friends of the Garden” working bee on Saturday 18 May under the direction of our Assistant Principal, Carol Duggan.  Thank you to the parents who came on the morning to mulch and prepare our garden beds.

Kind regards

Linda Brown
