SCHOOL PHOTOGRAPHS
Tuesday 25th & Wednesday 26th June
Our annual school photographs will be taken next Tuesday 25th and Wednesday 26th June. Envelopes were handed out to each student four weeks ago. Any parent enquiries should be directed to MSP Photography (02 67723519) or email newengland@msp.com.au.
These are always very busy days so please ensure your child is at school on time as we need to stick to a very tight timetable in order to get all of our photos completed. Please note that there are no make up days should your child be absent for any reason.
All students need to be dressed in full winter uniform, including tie, polished shoes and hair neat and tidy. Girls with long hair should have their hair tied back with bottle green ribbons as they would routinely wear for a normal school day.
We have noticed in the past year an increase in child protection related requirements when it comes to children and their images being taken. If you have a child/ren who cannot have their photo taken or be a part of the group photo, or can be a part of the photos but not have their name mentioned, please notify our office staff or Mrs McSweeney as soon as possible to ensure we apply these protection measures.
Thank you for your support in this matter.
NAIDOC WEEK CELEBRATIONS 2019
ST JOSEPH'S SCHOOL CHESS TOURNAMENT
2nd Place for St Nicholas School Team
On Friday 14th June, fifteen of St Nicholas School’s finest chess players travelled to McCarthy Catholic College to take part in the St Joseph’s Chess Tournament. Ranging from Year 3 to Year 6, our students were up against the likes of St Edwards, St Michael's Manilla, St Joseph's Quirindi and of course, St Joseph's West Tamworth. Unfortunately we weren’t able to continue last year's winning success, but were able to snag ourselves a much deserved second place.
All the students had a great time and behaved exceptionally well, showing true sportsmanship with every game they played. Congratulations to the entire team for your patience and commitment to what is the "gymnasium of the mind". (Blaise Pascal)
Notable mentions go to Ben Cini, who won overall Individual Winner on the day with 9 wins in 10 games. Cooper Holzigal and Noah Skelton both did very well, coming away with the awards in Best Checkmate and Best Chess Game respectively. Encouragement awards were also given out to Archie Eather and Seamus Ryan.

CYBER SAFETY - Ms Susan McLean
Susan McLean is Australia's foremost expert in the area of cyber safety and was a member of Victoria Police for 27 years. Widely known as the 'cyber cop' she was the first Victorian Police officer appointed to a position involving cyber safety and young people.
Susan does not pull any punches when speaking about the world of cyber and the potential risks it poses for our young people. One powerful point she conveyed was "young people have access to the world and the world has access to them." I strongly urge all parents to read the links I will include in the newsletter each week from this point, from her site Cyber safety Solutions. Better still, I recommend this site to all parents to look at as the information on there is both informative and confronting but, most importantly, real!

HELP NEEDED!
St Nicholas School has hundreds of new home readers thanks to the PT&F's wonderful fund raising. Our young readers are eager however we now have to cover them all in clear contact before they can be put into circulation.
If you are able to help cover some readers with supplied contact, could you please contact Amanda Doyle - adoyle@arm.catholic.edu.au

MOBILE PHONES AND STUDENTS
Here at St Nicholas School, students are not permitted to use mobile phones whilst in our care. However we do appreciate that some students have phones to make communication with parents easier especially after school hours. Our policy is that all students with phones, ipods or other electronic devices must hand these in at the office to Mrs Grady at the start of each day and collect them at the end of the day. If phones are used inappropriately by any student they will not be permitted to bring it to school.
SUPERVISION OF STUDENTS
All parents need to be aware our supervision of students does not begin until 8.15am each day. We are becoming increasingly concerned that children are being dropped off and left on their own, unsupervised by parents before this time - often up to half an hour earlier. This is not a safe or acceptable practice. We cannot be responsible for any accident or potentially harmful incidents occurring. Please organise alternative care for your child if your child requires supervision before 8.15am.
