FROM THE PRINCIPAL

TERM 2 - WEEK 8

To the St Nicholas School Community,

FIRST RECONCILIATION AND FIRST EUCHARIST

Congratulations to our Catholic Year 3 students who last night joined the Parish community to celebrate their first Reconciliation, the Sacrament of Penance. Over the weekend these same children will receive the Eucharist for the first time.

The Sacraments are a special time in our lives. They are an opportunity to bring us closer to our faith community and our God. I thank Mrs Renee Dunst, our Year 3 teachers, parents and all involved in preparing our children so thoroughly.

YEAR 6 RE TEST

Last Thursday our Year 6 students sat the annual Year 6 Religious Education Test. At St Nicholas we use the results to reflect and critique our Religious Education programs and pedagogy. While proud of our academic record in this test, we are always striving to improve.

PT&F MEETING : VIRTUAL REALITY GOGGLES

On Tuesday night St Nicholas students Isabella Hanlon, Emma Taggart, Zara and Zac Zigic presented to our Parents, Teachers and Friends Association an example of education in 2019 through the Virtual Reality goggles. This opportunity was to acknowledge the work of the PT&F, who fully funded this resource and to educate our parents on the wonderful opportunities our students have.

My thanks to Mrs Karen Dickie for driving this extremely relevant component of our students' learning, while also being present at the meeting to support our students.

ST JOSEPH'S SCHOOL CHESS TOURNAMENT

Last Friday the St Nicholas School Chess Team attended a Diocesan tournament at McCarthy Catholic College. The team is exceptionally well led and coached by Mr Barry Lane, as was evident in the teams Second Place and the individual champion award being presented to Ben Cini. Congratulations to all involved!

MR JOSH TURNER

Mr Josh Turner would be well known to your children. Josh is a McCarthy Catholic College student enrolled in a site based traineeship at St Nicholas School as he studies to one day become a Primary School Teacher. Josh is a wonderful member of our staff and we are very proud of him.

Josh has recently been announced as a finalist in the School-Based Trainee/Apprentice of the Year Awards in the New England region by the Greater Northern Skills Development Group. Josh will join his fellow finalists for the announcement of the award on Friday, 28th June. On behalf of St Nicholas School, I thank Josh for everything he brings to our wonderful school and wish him the best of luck on the 28th!

SUPPORT FOR OUR PARISH

Fr Chris is currently looking for members of the parent community to join a new committee looking into the way the Parish conducts its Plan Giving. The simple functioning of our wonderful Parish is reliant on the generous offerings of our Plan Givers. I ask you to think seriously about joining this committee and contacting myself or Fr Chris.

SCHOOL PHOTOGRAPHS

Just a reminder that next Tuesday and Wednesday we have our annual School Photographs! Please ensure your child is at school on time as these are very busy days and it's a tight schedule. Full winter uniform, neat tidy hair, shiny shoes and a big smile are all that is required!

Have a wonderful week.

John Clery
