Parent and Community
School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) at CSPS.
SWPBS is an alternate approach to behaviour management that differs significantly from traditional approaches (e.g., punishment).
It is based on research that considers more effective approaches to managing behaviour.
SWPBS aims to:
reduce behaviours of concern using appropriate tiered strategies, and
increase the individuals quality of life through the acquisition of new skills
SWPBS at Cranbourne South Primary School.
All students are explicitly taught the expected behaviours of CSPS within the learning spaces, outdoor areas and assembly. The Expected Behaviours Matrix assists CSPS to improve social, emotional, behavioural and academic outcomes for our students.
Using our CSPS Expected Behaviours Matrix allows teachers and students to have more time to focus on relationships and classroom instruction. Students and staff benefit from:
- increased respectful and positive behaviour
- increased time focused on instruction
- improved social-emotional wellbeing
- positive and respectful relationships among students and staff
Be an Upstander
Last month on the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence, the Department launched the Be an upstander - #ihaveyourback video and poster competition focused on promoting upstander behaviour among students.
The video, created in partnership with the Melbourne Football Club and the Victorian Aboriginal Education Association Inc. (VAEAI), features AFL players Nathan Jones, Neville Jetta and AFLW player Aliesha Newman as well as students from Albert Park College. It promotes safe and easy ways that students can act as upstanders within their school and among their peers.
You can view the video here
The poster competition is part of the broader Be an upstander campaign. It is open to all Victorian school students. See the promotional poster for more information.
Congratulations to 2A and 5/6A who are leading the school in Nude Food Lunches.
