Year 10 Work Experience Reflection

My work experience placement at the Realm Library has been a wonderful experience that I will not forget. I was initially apprehensive about starting my work experience but the staff there were all very friendly and supportive. Soon I felt comfortable going there and started looked forward to learning new things and doing some work. The main tasks that I had were shelving, searching for reserved books, and also returning books that have been reserved but had not been collected within the given timeframe (this task was called 'Clean Holds').

Not only did I manage to answer some fleeting but interesting questions that have passed through my mind before, such as 'How are the books sorted' and 'What do librarians usually do for the 6 hours that they are at work for', I have also managed to learn many new things that I have never thought about before, such as the two systems, called SpyDus and WorkFlows, which governs the entire book catalogue in all the libraries that use either one of them.

Overall, the week went really well and although some tasks were not as interesting, I still enjoyed every bit of it. I would definitely recommend considering a work experience placement at a library for future year 10s who prefer a more 'chill' workplace.
