SENIOR SCHOOL UPDATE

YEAR 12

Last Wednesday 13th September Year 12 students attended examination preparation sessions conducted by presenters Patrick and Chris from Elevate Education.

The Ace Your Exams seminar covered:

  • Exam preparation tasks
  • How to ensure consistent improvement
  • How to allocate time during exam preparation
  • Techniques for managing stress and time pressure in exams

The Memory and Mnemonics seminar covered:

  • How to overcome reliance on rote learning
  • The role of attention in memory and managing distractions
  • Semantic learning techniques for higher level memorization

The students were fully engaged in the sessions and interacted well with the presenters. They now need to put the advice and strategies given into action.

Trial Exams

During the first week of the holidays, 25th - 29th September, the College is running Year 12 Trial examinations. We would expect that all students who are completing Unit 3/4 Studies would attend these trial examinations, take them seriously and use them as solid preparation for the VCAA examinations that begin with English on Wednesday, 1st November.

Keys Please

Last week Year 10 Students were given a Keys Please session. Vic Roads presenter Sharon gave an excellent overview of the current Campaign 120 and the procedures for young Victorians for obtaining their driver’ license. Students were engaged in the informative and practical elements of this presentation.

Whether or not they already have their Ls, this session explained everything they needed to know about making the most of the learner driver period. Students received a set of L Plates and access to online resources.

Lessons from the Road features eight videos. The videos showcase the emotions and real life issues in learning to drive. They help you work through the four stages required to help learners achieve their goals. Lessons from the Road is easy to use and can be accessed on the VicRoads website at vicroads.vic.gov.au and search “Lessons from the Road”.

VicRoads strongly recommends watching Lessons from the Road. Helping your son or daughter to be a safer driver is the one Rewards Program you can’t afford to miss out on!

Congratulations and thanks to Year 10 students for your attention and positive responses to the Key Please session.
