Year 7

New school, new friends and wonderful opportunities for all

Of course starting at a large schoolCollege was nerve-racking, compared to primary school.  Coming from different primary schools, you never know what other students will be like.  We experienced such welcoming students and teachers.  It was strange having different teachers for different subjects and having to move around to different classrooms but we found this a fantastic experience as the teachers are all specialists in what they do.

Camp was a great experience early on as we could get to know everyone in our homeroom.  This time influenced us to make new friends which was brilliant.   It was great that even the students who found it difficult to face their fears, like jumping of the rock pools and going down the Kilcunda sand dunes but we were comforting and supportive of those that were scared.  We all found the courage to do the activities.

As soon as we got back from camp another activity was underway, House Athletics. The House Athletics includes four houses: Soloman (yellow), McCristal (red), La Salle (green) and Benilde (blue). This was a great day for competitiveness and fun. In the end Benilde won.  Everyone enjoyed the day and there were some awesome performances on the track.

The swimming carnival was a great day and we all subdivided into our House colours. Just year 7s were involved in this event and it was much like the House Athletics; it was full of fun and competitiveness. In the end McCristal House won.

MAD and Founder’s Day was the next event on our busy calendar.  This day was all about raising money for building houses and schools in India and Thailand.  All of the students were involved,  and participated in either a 10km walk or run.  Later on in the year, some of the Year eleven students are fortunate enough to build houses and schools for the needy in Thailand and India. When we got back from the walk/run there were many activities to participate in like bubble soccer, carnival rides, food and the dunking machine.

So far this term we have had a ball.

The St Bedes College community is vibrant and colourful.  Every student fits in and no one is excluded.  We can't wait for the rest of the year.

Parent Welcome Evening

It was fantastic to see so many Year 7 parents attend the Welcome Evening on Friday 4 March.  The evening provided a great opportunity for parents to meet our fantastic team of Year 7 homeroom teachers as well as many other Year 7 parents.

A special thank you must go to the members of the Parents & Friends Association for providing the amazing food we all enjoyed throughout the evening.

House Athletics

Congratulations to all Year 7 students on their involvement in the House Athletics Carnival .

BENILDE were victorious in the Junior carnival this year but the spirit shown on the day by all competitors was outstanding.

Congratulations to our Year 7 Athletics Champions Lachlan Benton (Benilde) and Thomas Murphy  (La Salle) .  Both young men achieved some fantastic individual results on the day.  They were closely followed by Rhys Gillard  (Benilde) and Jackson Liaskos (Benilde) who finished in equal 3rd place.

Year 7 Camp

The Year 7 camps to ‘Cypress Lodge’ at Philip Island have been a great success during Term 1.   On behalf of all of the Year 7 students I would like to thank Mr Darren Strom and Mr Nic Anderson for the amazing experience the camp provides to the students.  The program provides not only a great introduction for the students starting at St Bede’s College but also many fond memories that will remain with them well into the future.

Thanks also to the Year 7 homeroom teachers for making the camp such a positive experience for all involved.
