Primary Captains attend National Young Leaders Day.

Our Grade 6 captains, along with Mrs McAleer were fortunate to attend the National Young Leaders Day at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. They were inspired by guest speakers including Gemma Triscari, Consentino, John Coutis and Harrison Craig. Students Learnt about being leaders and all came back stronger and more confident in their college captains roles.

International Student ANZAC Biscuit Making

Our grade 5 and 6 international students made ANZAC biscuits with Mrs McAleer. They learnt English and Mathematical words associated with reading a recipe and baking such as stir, pour, oven, bowl, cup teaspoon, baking tray, how much etc.  Then, they were able to enjoy eating their biscuits and writing a book about their experience.

Mother's day 2018

The students organised activities for the mums who visited our classroom. Some mums were pampered with hand massages, others participated in mindful colouring in pictures, some made bookmarks together or designed cards. We also had a Mother's Day word search and every mum left the room with a flower and expressions of appreciation from students and teachers.

A wonderful afternoon was had by all!

This joint program between Waverley gardens early learning centre and Carwatha College P-12 is a fantastic opportunity for our grade 6 captains. This partnership also involves the kinder children coming to Carwatha College P-12 participating in prep programs preparing them for school 2019.

Exploring Digital Technologies

All Primacy students have started learning about Digital Technologies. This started with some exploration of old and current technologies.

Students in PL, P/1A and 1/2L compared old phones to the ones we used today. Students found the old mobile phones were quite exciting and were surprised to learn how simple they were. Students have continued their learning to include classifying computer parts as either hardware (something you can touch) or software (gives computers instructions on what to do).

Students in Grades 3-6 have been learning about peripheral devices. Students have learned that peripheral devices communicate with computers. Students identified a variety of peripherals as either input, output or storage devices.

Desert Island Engineering Challenge

Students in Grades 4/5N-6E have finished their Desert Island Engineering Challenges. Students were tasked with saving Sir Harley Houndstooth from a desert island. There were 5 challenges to complete;

  1. Build a hut, to withstand a windstorm
  2. Build a bridge, to access food above a crocodile infested swamp
  3. Create a container to send a message in a bottle
  4. Create a catapult to fight off the pirates
  5. Create a raft with a mast to sail away from the dreaded island.

Students had a great time thinking creatively and challenging their engineering skills to complete each challenge. For many it also challenged their project management skills to be able to work within a time restraint.

Primary Art

Grade 3M Optical Illusions

Students learnt how to create the illusion of shapes coming out of the page by ruling lines from their shape to a vanishing point. Skills in tracing, ruling and colouring were developed to produce these pieces of art.
