Junior School

End of School Year

As the year comes to an end we would like to congratulate the Junior School students on finishing another year of secondary school. The end of the year is a time to reflect on the successes and achievements that all students have made throughout the year. It is also a time to reflect on any areas for improvement. School reports will be distributed on the last day of school prior to dismissal  and we encourage students to sit down with their parents/guardians to reflect on their achievements and areas of improvement.

Respectful Relationships

Last Wednesday 28 November the junior school students took part in the last session of the Respectful Relationships program. Year 9 students covered the barriers and enablers to consent in relationships and the implications of gender-based violence.  Year 8 students covered safe spaces in the school and the community, sexual harassment and gender based violence. Students also took part in rock wall and trivia as part of the challenge activities and enjoyed a BBQ lunch. Both the year 8 and 9 students are to be commended on their engagement and involvement in all the respectful relationships classes.

Yarning Circle and Marrung Forum

Aimee Bugeja of Year 8 had the opportunity to attend a Yarning circle and the Marrung forum on Wednesday 28 November accompanied by Miss Lawson. Aimee attended along with 17 other students from local schools who are Koorie and are identified as leaders within their school. The Marrung forum took place in the afternoon and consisted of over 100 community members and Department of Education representatives that gathered together to discuss the Marrung, an aboriginal education plan. Aimee was selected as one of the four students to speak in front of the forum as part of a panel of students. I would like to congratulate Aimee for being given this opportunity and for having the courage to speak honestly at a large forum.

A snapshot of the day

Last week I had an amazing opportunity to participate in an Indigenous Australians Yarning Circle and Marrung Forum. This is all a part of the Aboriginal Education Plan 2016 - 2026. It’s all about listening to students opinions. The Yarning Circle included young Indigenous Australians talking about cultural support that benefits students learning. This was a safe space with just students discussing how Indigenous Australians education could be improved. Myself and three other young aboriginals sat on a panel answering questions regarding how Indigenous Australians could be better supported that improves our support system and education.

End of Year Program

We would like to remind parents/guardians and students that the end of year program commences on Wednesday 12 December. Students will be engaging in a variety of activities held at school and at two external venues: Gumbuya World and Movies and bowling.

We wish all the Junior School students a safe and enjoyable holiday break and we look forward to seeing everyone back in 2019.
