INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC

Year 7 Enrolment

All Year 7 students who wish to learn instruments at school should have started lessons by now. If you missed out and you want to learn any of the instruments below and be in an ensemble, please come to the PAC and ask one of the helpful teachers in the staffroom or even better, see Miss McAlister!

INSTRUMENTS

Flute, Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, French Horn, Tuba, Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar, Bass Guitar, Drums & Percussion, Voice and Piano.

Instrumental Music Staff

At the end of Term 1, we had to say farewell to our wonderful singing and piano teacher,         Clancye Milne. The students and staff will miss her and would like to wish her well for her future endeavours.

We are lucky enough to have our Guitar Teacher Stephen McCulloch, who will be able to take on all of Clancyes’ students. He will be contacting you shortly to arrange lesson times.

Private Lessons

It is perhaps a good time to remind parents and guardians to please keep up to date with payments for your childs’ private lessons.

Please make sure that you check your emails regularly.

LHS Band

Band rehearsals have started on Thursday lunchtimes and Ms Ventura and the Year 8 - 12 students have been rehearsing for their first performance at the Grade 6 Information Night.

We are also looking into an afternoon or evening workshop with another band, to broaden our students’ musical experiences.

Stay tuned for more details.

Funk Band

The students in the Funk Band have also had a few rehearsals and preparing for our End of Semester concert.

Miss Cumming has been organising new music and the students are always keen to get started!

Vocal Ensemble

The Vocal Ensemble members are preparing to perform at the Melbourne Shrine of Remembrance on Thursday 31 May as part of the Victorian Indigenous Remembrance Day.

If you would like to come to rehearsals Wednesday lunch time and sing “I Am Australian” with us, please come and see Miss McAlister in the PAC staffroom who has organised the excursion.

The Vocal Ensemble will officially recommence on Wednesday 2 May and will be taken by Stephen McCulloch in the band room.

Youth Week

African Drumming & Kora (Harp) Recital

Last Tuesday 17 April, we had a wonderful workshop on African Djembes for 8M and the Percussion students.

The Dandenong Ranges Music Council organised funding as part of Youth Week to run the day for the students, for free. It was wonderful to see the students playing and enjoying making and learning different rhythms.

The last session of the day was a Recital of the African Kora which is a very rare Harp. There are only ten people in Australia that can play and own these instruments, so it was a privilege to hear the instrument being performed.

After the recital, the students all had the opportunity to have a go at playing the instrument and learning a song.

It was a very successful day. Thank you Dandenong Ranges Music Council and Roderick McCleod for the wonderful opportunity.

End of Semester Concert

There will be workshops run in early June for all of the ensembles to prepare their musical items for the concert.

The concert will be held on Thursday 21 June in the Performing Arts Theatre (time to be confirmed) and will involve all of the ensembles who will perform a couple of numbers each.

All students who learn an instrument at school are expected to be involved in an ensemble of some kind at school.

Please bring your family and friends along, so put the date in your diary.
