End of Term 1
Easter Egg Hunt and Colouring Competition
On the final day of Term 1, many of our VCE students participated in an Easter Egg hunt arranged by our VCE student leaders. The hunt was a hit and proved a great way to celebrate the last day of term.
The winner of the Easter colouring competition was Chloe Varley! Well done, Chloe!
Staff vs Student Netball
Congratulations to Lotus Fakatava and Cailey Nolan for winning the Best Male Performance and Best Female Performance awards at the Staff vs Student Netball game at the end of Term !
Well done to all VCE students who participated in the game and all those who came to show their support.
Study Skills
All Year 11 and 12 students have participated in Study Skills sessions over the past two weeks, working on time management skills, organisation, exam strategies, memory and revision techniques and note taking.
These skills will prove to be very valuable this term with the GAT, Year 11 mid-year exams, as well as ongoing SACs and assessments.
We encourage all VCE students to begin utilising these strategies now so that they will become increasingly familiar throughout the year.
Resilience Activities
Our gratitude blackboard has a new prompt this term: ‘…helps me to be resilient’.
Don’t forget to add your resilience reflection to the gratitude blackboard outside Room V5 in the VCE Centre.
Mindful Mornings
VCE Points!
Mindful mornings are still happening every morning at Steamworks from 8:10 am to 8:20 am. Come down to Steamworks and enjoy a relaxing start to your morning.
VCE students will receive one point for every session they attend, so make sure that you put your name down when you drop in.
GAT
The General Achievement Test (GAT) is approaching this term. This will take place on Wednesday 13 June.
The GAT is a test of general knowledge and skills in: Written Communication, Mathematics, Science and Technology, Humanities, The Arts and Social Sciences.
All students completing a Units 3&4 subject will need to complete the GAT even if they completed it in 2017.
Students will also be participating in GAT preparation sessions leading up to the GAT.
VCE SACs
A reminder that if your child misses a School Assessed Coursework (SAC) they must get a medical certificate to enable them to sit the SAC in the next available IPT time slot.
Students will not be granted SAC redemption unless they have a medical certificate or it is a school-approved absence. If there are extenuating circumstances please let us know and we will make a decision based on the VCAA guidelines.
Once a student has been approved for SAC redemption, they will be required to sit the SAC the next available time slot.
VCE Attendance
It is a requirement at Lilydale High School that students attend all timetabled classes so that teaching and learning opportunities can be maximised.
If students have reached their limit for absences from class there is an opportunity for this time to be redeemed. Students can speak to their Year Level Coordinator to discuss making this time up at lunchtime, during afternoon Study Periods, or after school.
Towards the end of term, it is imperative that students make up classes they have missed.
Furthermore, it is a requirement that students attend Home Group, even if they have Study Periods, periods 1 + 2.
Absences on COMPASS
Any absences from school must be parent/guardian approved. You can do this through a signed note or you can approve your child’s absences via the Parent Approval Button on Compass.
You can also use Compass to view your student’s past absences.
VCE students and cars
A reminder that some students will acquire a car and licence this year.
PARKING: is available in the Stadium Car Park.
NO DRIVER STUDENT MAY TAKE OUT ANOTHER STUDENT IN THEIR CAR DURING SCHOOL HOURS.
Students may obtain their parents’ permission to be driven to and from school in another student’s car. A written note from both students’ parents must be given to the VCE Coordinators before driving another student or siblings.
Students must inform the VCE Coordinators of their licence plate numbers and car make and colour.
