Coffee Training Program

Lilydale High School is providing training to Year 9 students interested in learning Barista skills.

The purpose of the training is to introduce students to the grinder and coffee machine, allow them to use all the equipment and learn the sensory properties of coffee.  Should they wish to develop their skills further, they will be given information about further training packages provided by Bean Around Town in Croydon.

This training will exempt the student from 1 double period during the week and will require them to do a follow up coffee service, during a nominated recess, in conjunction with Supper Club to qualify them for a participation certificate.

Once numbers have been determined the timetable for training will be developed and will be sent to all those who have expressed interest.

Please complete the 'Expression of Interest slip' below and return it to the Middle School Office by Tuesday May 1, 2018.

Year 9 Captains' Report

Welcome back Year 9s to Term 2, we hope you had a fun and relaxing holiday and received lots of chocolate!

There are plenty of things coming up in Term 2; ANZAC Day, Cross Country, Year 9 Careers Day and the LHS Coffee Shop.

ANZAC Day (25 April) is a day where we commemorate all the soldiers who fought and lost their lives in the war and the families who lost their loved ones.

Next week on Monday,  it is Cross Country and Year 9 Careers Day

Careers Day is an opportunity for Year 9 students to participate in a wide range of activities to do with their careers including:

  • Developing a Career Action Plan
  • Creating an individualised Resume with one of Victoria's leading recruiting companies
  • Engaging in job matching to individual style and skills
  • Discovering where to search and research jobs
  • Learning how to choose the right referees
  • Learning how to highlight "you" in a cover letter
  • Understanding the importance of body language (and practise introducing themselves)
  • Exploring the 'do's and don'ts of an interview
  • Creating a list of interview tips
  • Performing a careers interests profiler test
  • Attending a mock job interview

For Careers Day,  students are to come dressed in neat and tidy clothes appropriate for a job interview.

Cross Country is being held at Lilydale Lake during Periods 5 and 6 on Monday. This is great opportunity for any long distance runners to show their skills and endurance, but others are welcome to come down and give it their all.

Another new opportunity in the LHS community is the LHS Coffee Shop where there has already been a competition for the name!  The Year 9s also get the chance to take a training course on making and serving espresso-based coffee drinks.  Students will be able to use this skill when they go for a job interview, showing they have some experience.
