BEAT THE TEACHER
Do you think you have what it takes to ‘Beat The Teacher’ in a brainiac battle of wit and intelligence?
To celebrate Literacy and Numeracy Week this week, a number of teachers across a range of key learning areas have made ‘Beat The Teacher’ videos to highlight how numeracy applies to all areas of the curriculum.
Student’s have been challenged to look at Compass and solve these cross curricular problems before their teacher does.
We have also purchased a great selection of prizes for the winners to ‘lucky dip’ from. Students can win anything from chocolates to iTunes vouchers. The first 5 students to submit their entries in each week are notified to collect their prize from Ms Kaspar in Staffroom 2.

YEAR 7 ALGEBRA
- Have you ever wanted to help your child in Mathematics, but didn’t know where to start?
- Have you ever thought to yourself that 'Maths just isn’t taught the same way that it used to be'?
If this is you, then we have the perfect solution!
Students studying Year 7 Mathematics are part way through the unit on Patterns and Algebra. Many students find this to be a difficult topic to get their head around initially. This is why we have created a fully online, differentiated, self paced unit for your child to work from.
You can also find countless videos that you are able to watch with your child to help them with their Mathematics should they get stuck!
You can view this website by visiting the link:

It has numerous hyperlinks to all of the skills that are being covered within your child’s Mathematics class this term, as well as video tutorials and differentiated worksheets that will get your child to explore various concepts related to algebra at a level which is appropriate to them.
SPECIAL EVENTS
Tournament of Minds
On Saturday 22 August, 7 students from Years 7-10 participated in the Tournament of the Minds competition that was held at Mt Lilydale Mercy College.
The day was a celebration of the hard work that they had put into their project throughout the month leading up to the event. All of the students represented the school exceptionally well, putting on on a fantastic performance which highlighted both their engineering skills and their ability to think creatively under high pressure circumstances!
The students involved received a participation award on the day. Congratulations to everyone who was involved for all of your hard work, both in the lead up to the event, and for your participation on the day!
Literacy and Numeracy Week
Throughout the past week, students across the entire school have been taking part in a number of fantastic activities to celebrate Literacy and Numeracy Week. The numeracy activities, headed by Mrs Laura Kaspar, saw students creating clocks with a twist! As part of this activity, students were encouraged to create equations to represent the numbers from 1-12, which were then used to make up the numbers on a clock. These clocks can now be found in classrooms all around the school!
A number of students also took part in a range of activities during their regular Maths classes.
With the state emphasis being placed on tessellations, students were encouraged to take part in a hands on, creative lesson, which got them to explore the meaning of tessellations and how they worked.
There was also a number of lunchtime activities such as Chess, life-sized Mathopoly and a live version of 'Beat the Teacher'.
A huge thank you to everyone who participated enthusiastically in this weeks events. Thank you also Mrs Kaspar for all of the hard work that she put into organising these fantastic events!
