PRODUCTION 2015
What a show!
Following many months of weekend and evening rehearsals and a great deal of behind the scenes preparation by many staff, students and parents, the Lilydale High School Production is over for another year and what a brilliant show it was!
An amazingly talented cast and a great support crew worked together to produce an outstanding show. Congratulations to everyone involved and to Directors Jacki Goode and Amy Cumming for their leadership of the entire event.
This year we had a major power outage on Saturday night which meant that the performance had to be moved to Sunday night. Thank you to everyone for your patience and support during this very difficult evening. The way in which everyone responded; parents, friends, students and staff, was a tribute to the wonderful community that is Lilydale High School.
YEAR 10 FORMAL
Our Year 10 students had a wonderful night on Friday August 21 at their long awaited 'Formal'. Everyone looked stunning as they arrived at the Karralyka Centre in Ringwood and were soon enjoying dinner and plenty of dancing on a very crowded dance floor.
A big thank you to Year Level Coordinators Di Moore and Liz Nevins who, along with the assistance of the Year 10 Captains, organised the evening. Thank you also to Lauren Kelso, Sub School Assistant for her administration work.
Thanks also to the staff who attended and most importantly to our students who were superbly presented and beautifully behaved. For me, it is always a pleasure to be part of these significant events in the lives of our students.
3 WAY CONFERENCES
3 Way Conferences are coming up on Thursday September 17.
The aim of the conferences is for parents/guardians, students and teachers to engage in discussions about the progress of the student and how to improve their learning in future.
The conferences will be available to book online within the next week through Compass.
I urge all parents and guardians to meet with your child's teachers to exchange information about their progress and build the partnerships needed for students to be successful at school.
ATTENDANCE
Regular attendance is valued at Lilydale High School. Students who attend regularly give themselves the best opportunity to achieve academically by engaging fully in their learning and foster and maintain friendships.
I ask all parents/guardians to encourage regular attendance for your child/children to ensure every chance for success.
NAPLAN
National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy
The NAPLAN results for our Year 7 and 9 students were recently posted home. This year's results indicated a slight upward trend in Year 9 Mathematics which was very pleasing to see.
A reminder that the tests are a snap shot and need to be considered as a supplement to tests and assessments completed in class. There are many aspects to student achievement including a number of internal tests and observations by classroom teachers.
Please don’t hesitate to call your child's classroom teacher or our Head of Curriculum, Janine Sayers, if you would like further clarification on your son or daughter's NAPLAN results.
SCIENCE DRAMA PERFORMANCE
Tonight a cast of 15 students from across all year levels will participate in the Science Drama Performance and Awards Night at McMillan Hall, Canterbury Girls' College.
Drama teacher, Helen Nicholas initiated this earlier in the year and it was eagerly taken up by some of our students.
The play ‘To bee or not to bee’ was written by Helen and the students have been rehearsing enthusiastically to ensure all is in readiness for this exciting final.
Our team is one of five across the state that has made it to the finals. We wish you good luck!
Tickets at door. Adults $20. Students and pensioners $12.
About the Science Drama Awards
The Science Drama Awards has been operating since 1993. They help to foster creativity and integrate the study of science with reading, writing, music, art and the performing arts.
The Science Drama Awards encourages entrants from all primary and secondary schools in Victoria.
Entry into the competition requires schools to develop a ten minute performance about a scientific concept or issue. Schools submit a script and video of their proposed performance. Finalists are then selected to perform in front of a live audience.

YEAR 12 STUDENTS
The time is counting down to the end of secondary school for our Year 12 students. Many classes will be completing the course work and moving into revision over the next two weeks.
This is an important time when students must ensure they have submitted all of their required work, checked feedback from teachers, redrafted essays for further feedback, taken advantage of extra classes, planned their holiday study, completed practice exams and taken every opportunity to maximise their study scores in every subject. It can be a stressful time and therefore students also need to make sure they; eat well, sleep, exercise and generally take care of their health and wellbeing.
A reminder that the network offer Master Classes in many subjects with details available on the Year 11 and 12 Facebook pages.
