This term I have enjoyed the opportunity to visit some extra curricular activities with the students of Oakleigh Grammar, including Junior School Athletics, Year 5 Camp and Year 11 Camp. Below are some of the photos I took along the way!

Oakleigh Grammar has been selected to participate in the OECD’s Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2018, which is one of the international assessments of the National Assessment Program (NAP). This year Australia will be one of about 80 countries participating in PISA. Oakleigh Grammar will be one of 800 schools across Australia taking part in PISA.

The PISA testing will involve each student completing a two-hour cognitive test and a one-hour student questionnaire.

By participating in PISA, our school is contributing to an important ‘health check’ on the performance of Australia’s education system in key learning areas and emerging 21st century skills, such as problem solving.

PISA assesses students skills and knowledge in reading, mathematics, science and financial literacy, providing both a national and international perspective. The results of PISA provide information towards monitoring how well young Australians are meeting important educational goals, assists in identifying areas of strengths and weaknesses in the Australian education system, allows the comparison of student performance with other countries, and enables policymakers, researchers and teachers to learn from other education systems around the world.

All students born between 1st May 2002 and 30 April 2003 are eligible to be selected by the Australian Council of Educational Research (ACER). This year 27 students from Years 8, 9 and 10 will participate in the PISA. The PISA assessment will be held on the morning of Tuesday 4th September.

As an IB World School, we have an interest and an opportunity with PISA to engage in global research that will improve the quality of education for young people not only in Australia but also across the globe. Our students will play an important role in representing Australia in the international education community.
