Community Fair

This Saturday is the Community Fair! So looking forward to it! Bring on the sausage sizzle. AND A CAKE!

The ASPIRE team are manning the cake stall this year. We've been cooking up a storm at our own houses.

Late last term we sent home a paper plate for you to put some home baked deliciousness onto. This is just a reminder that we would so appreciate it if you could bake something for us to sell. Cakes, biscuits and slices are all welcome. These can be dropped off to the Senior Building at school on Thursday and Friday. Thank you in advance for your support!

Science

Welcome back to our final term of Science for 2019! It's hard to believe we are already into our fourth main learning focus already - the year has flown by! This term all learning levels are focusing on Physical Science.

The Foundation students will be learning about the way objects move. They will be investigating the way shape and size affects not only how things move but the speed with which they move. Lots of practical experiments are planned to support student learning.

The Junior students will also be investigating movement but will focus in on push and pull forces. They too will use a range of practical experiments as a way of deepening learning.

The Middle students will deepen and extend prior learning about forces. They will will take it further with experiments that investigate forces including gravity and friction. Students will factor in velocity of objects under force in some experiments.

The Senior students will take a slight tangent in their investigations and focus on energy generated. Students will use a variety of experiments to investigate different energy sources and how they generate electricity. Both traditional and renewable sources of energy will be investigated.

This week we welcome Michael Turner, our resident scientist in schools, for his final visit of 2019. Michael has some fantastic investigations planned including working with pulleys and using lemons to generate electricity! The students always have a wonderful time and really extend their thinking and problem solving skills. I'd like to extend a big thank you to Michael for his dedication to bringing science to the students here at Kilsyth. It is much appreciated.
