We are learning to...

Summarise! When we read it's important to discuss the important parts of texts.  Students are looking at drawing on the problem or events within text to ensure they have understood what they have read and can explain this after reading.  Focusing on use of correct grammar and using appropriate sentence structure, student are expected to answer in full sentences as they develop areas of their oral language.

Recall and write fun facts from non-fiction texts.  Students are working towards writing an information report.  At the moment we are focusing on writing facts and making sure our writing makes sense for our audience.   Students are continuing to work on their letter formation as we want to develop a fluent writing style that is consistent with the size and appearance of their lower-case letters.  It's great to hear that students are having many opportunities to write at home.  This sure helps with confidence, stamina and their growth as they work towards Junior School!

Skip Count & understand Australian money.  Last week we have explored skip counting patterns by 2s, 5s and 10s.  Students have worked very hard to develop their understanding and solve problems.  This is a great fun activity to practise at home which will consolidate their knowledge.  In class we have been using number charts.  Some students can count each pattern unassisted whereas others need the charts to look at the number sequence.

This week we are exploring Australian money in the lead up to our Community Fair.  Students will develop understanding of silver and gold coins, notes and language involving cheap and expensive.  Continuing discussions involving money with your child is extremely important due to the fact that so many of us these days rely less on cash and more on card.  Helping students to understand this can be fun! Problem Solving will form a large part of our focused instruction this week.
