VCE – Some Timely Advice:

Yes, the senior years involve our students in quite a hard time, but anything worth doing is challenging! The sense of achievement once something is mastered is well worth the effort.

To cite the Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson:

“Be creative, be confident, don’t give up, and don’t get eaten. Accept that you will feel scared and small along the way, but also that you will make it through. They don’t call it the deep dark wood for nothing.”

If you would like to read The Gruffalo – it is available from our Junior Branch!

Academic Assistance:

Monday night, we were packed – no spare seats in fact! Almost every teacher in the Mathematics Department was in the library assisting students, and only two of them were rostered. It really is an amazing opportunity for our students.

Remember, the sessions run Monday to Thursday from 3.45 to 5.45. It is advisable for students to have a short break and have a drink and snack before they come in to study or complete homework.

Photos will be up on our blog by the time you read this newsletter.

Library Committee:

We run these at both branches. Mr. Nelson is the organiser for the Junior School, and Zoe Sharrock, Captain of Information Services, takes responsibility for the Senior Branch. Our first meeting for the year was great – productive discussion and numerous helpers assisting with our Library Lovers’ presents for 2017 – single red roses! Library Lovers’ day is an international event that falls on the 14th February, which is observed for other reasons by most people! This year, because that was house swimming, we celebrated a little later. See the action here!

This year we are planning a knitting club and a book club. Lachlan Tonissen of Year 7 is bravely taking on our book club. The first session will be at recess on Tuesday next week.

Update on Furniture:

All our computers in the Senior Branch were upgraded this week. They are now amazingly fast and working wirelessly. Thanks so much to Ian Cook and Mitchell Clode for all their hard work for our library! Susie Holcombe assisted with relocating some furniture as things had been altered to cater for scholarship examination last Saturday morning. Our current arrangement will be further enhanced with the pending arrival of new study carrels which may arrive next week. Their arrival will see the departure of some of the recycled furniture we have been using as an interim measure.
