House Athletics

The annual House Athletics Sports are to be held on Monday 6th March at Pedrina Park, commencing at 9.10am. There are lots of opportunities for all the students to participate on the day with a full program – only the high jump events are being held before the day at lunchtimes in the sports centre. The successful program that was used for the first time in 2016 with both track and field events to be held simultaneously during the day will be used again– this has meant I will need as many parents and friends of the College to volunteer to assist during the day so please contact me if you are interested in helping for all or part of the day. House teams have been selected in house meetings and the programme of events is now available on the Intranet in the Sports folder or from the front desk.

Swimming

I personally thank all the parents and friends of the College who came to Portland to help cheer on our swimmers, our superb coach Maxine Baring for all her efforts, Miss Kristen Waldron and Gappers Jos and Bec for their assistance on the day and of course the leader of the cheer squad – Dr Hirst – who along with captains Lukas and Skye did a great job in firing up the team.

We now look forward to ICCES Swimming in Melbourne on Wednesday next week where our students will compete at a world class venue against some very strong swimmers from other independent schools across Victoria.

College Cricket Under 14 Report 18 + 25/2/17

Day 1

Coming in to the final home and away game, College was sitting in fourth position, four points above Grampians in fifth, and needing to win the two day game to make the finals. College won the toss and elected to bat. They started the day off well with the openers Oli Wortley and Nick Gunn building a solid foundation for the team, both players retired on 35 and 47 respectively making college none for 87 without a fall of wicket. Hamilton then picked up some quick wickets of Jack Wortley (1) and Toby Barrie (0). Then came some clean middle order hitting from Henry Bensch which increased College’s tally before he was run out on 26. College then lost Hannah Nichols who cracked one straight down mid-wicket’s throat, to be unluckily dismissed for 7. Dougal Mann was up to the task, but unfortunately was left stranded on 14 not out as wickets tumbled around him, which included four ducks. College finished on 182 runs from their 54 overs, which was their second highest score of the year and a competitive score for Hamilton to chase down.

Day 2

The following Week College arrived at Myrniong full of excitement and confidence knowing that they had a good score on the board and knowing that it was make or break for them. After some motivational words from Coach Phil Sanders, the players were on the ground ready to restrict Hamilton to less than 182. Nick Gunn opened the bowling, but unfortunately left his radar at home, spraying the ball all over the pitch. Hannah Nichols and Henry Bensch then did a good job in restricting Hamilton to limited runs early, although neither could manage a break through. Jack Wortley was able to get the first wicket of the day, coming in the 27th over which was too little too late, as Hamilton were able to keep ticking the score over at a constant rate. Edward Beggs, Oli Wortley and Dougal Mann were economical through the middle overs, but unfortunately in the 47th over of the game Hamilton surpassed College’s score of 182 with 7 overs remaining in the match. Unfortunately, for the College this meant that their season is now over, but it’s safe to say that all players really enjoyed the season and shared lots of laughs throughout.

Netball

We have had a terrific start to the season and it has been great to see the effort put in by players and coaches each week.  Players were required to fill in paperwork provided by the association (and has been on the newsletter a number of times this term) and to register and pay online.  A list was provided by the association for each team on Saturday of who had not submitted paperwork and who had not paid online.  This MUST be completed this week or players are ineligible to play from here on in.

I have attached the forms to the newsletter.

Also, the link below gives instructions on how to register online. If you are really having difficulty, a phone call to Netball Victoria may help, but they will not take payment over the phone. Please have your login details handy (email that was used for the student login (could be their school email address and password). The player should have received a letter initially when they registered with these details on it.

Also attached is the code of behaviour cover letter and form for signing. All students playing sport at the College are required to sign this form.  This was issued on the Team App this week (all students are registered on this – parents welcome to join. Download in the app store/play store).  Only one is needed for all sports – please print and sign if netball is the one sport the student plays.

A reminder, too, that netball training is on Tuesdays in the Sports Centre, so please make sure that all players have appropriate shoes and are on time.
