English Report

It’s Shakespeare season this term in English – the faculty’s favourite time of year. For most year groups this term, students will be studying a Shakespearean play:

  • Year 8 – A Midsummer Night’s Dream
  • Year 9 – Romeo and Juliet
  • Year 10 – Macbeth
  • Year 11 (Advanced) – Othello

As a faculty, we are looking forward to exploring these plays with our students. In some cases, we will only be studying key scenes, in others, we will also be viewing modern interpretations. Students are encouraged to persevere with the sometimes difficult language, and appreciate why we still study the great playwright today.

I’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate the following students for their excellent assessment task results at the completion of Term 2.

Year 7 Young Achievers Program (Reflection essay) Emmett Hartley, Fletcher Hartley, Phoebe Kostalas, Alexander McGavin and Alistair Seabrook.

Year 8 (Coming of Age essay)

Visual Arts and Photography

Year 11 Visual Arts

Year 11 have produced some great artworks for their assessment on a post modern book sculpture self portrait, and a Central Coast landscape relief lino print. A special mention to the quality sculpture work by Madison Shearer, Luke Mirfield, Kira Morgan, Khaleesa Whittiker, Laura Eades, Karl Suczynski, Matthew Mott, Tiarna Houghton, Damien Errol, Elise Christie, Dee Behan and Desiree Balfour. The relief prints were quite rushed but  these students were a standout. Damien Errol, Karl Suczynski, Desiree Balfour, Kirsty Abigail, Khaleesa Whittiker, Matt Mott and Kuke Mirfield. Well done Year 11. Some very creative work.

Year 11 Photography

Part of our fun in the darkroom last term was experimenting with Photograms and Chemograms. A photogram is the process of creating an image out of see through materials or sharpies on clear acetate and exposing through to photo paper. A chemogram is using the developing chemicals to create images without using a negative or image much at all. This class made some very creative images and enjoyed the experience.

Year 7 Visual Arts Workshops

Our Visual Arts Workshops have been learning about mixing secondary colours and painting with gradation, and sponges to create texture. We have also tried to not use visual clichés and have painted crazy rainbows in a stormy sky. Here are some of the finished paintings. Well done Year 7.
