Associate Principal, Operations Report

I never cease to appreciate the efforts and contributions of so many of our students!
As indicated last week, we were visited this week by students from Beijing and San Shui Foreign Language Schools. A group of Year 10 students played a leading role in working with and welcoming the visitors – and they did so with distinction!
On Wednesday afternoon, each of our students was grouped with a student from Beijing and a student from San Shui; each group was also made up of at least one boy and at least one girl. The students had less than an hour to decide upon a topic and prepare a presentation – often with some slides or images to accompany the presentation – for delivery to the whole Year 10 cohort. The instructions were fairly vague and general but all coped admirably.
The presentations were varied in approach and often very entertaining. Each presentation reflected a positive approach, an engagement with our visitors and displayed a sense of team-work.
Earlier, the visiting students had attended the fine Berry House Service about taking responsibility for one’s own actions. We all enjoyed singing along to “Count on Me” and in seeing the change in “Mr” Lukas Eggar’s class as they considered their actions.
The Chinese students also visited the boarding house on Tuesday night, where they were welcomed to dinner by a group of senior boarders. The students also joined all our Year 10s in a Phys. Ed. Class on Wednesday.
All who contributed to welcoming our guests did a fine job but I was particularly impressed by and grateful to the eleven students who made the presentation afternoon work so well, despite time constraints preventing the final two presentations being delivered. Thank you Sami, Hannah, Fitzy, Kyle, Jack, Tim, Pippa, Kelly, Claire, Kate and Jarman.
