Year Two Poets
Earlier this year a number of students participated in the annual Dorothea Mackellar Poetry competition as a part of Literacy and Numeracy week. At next week’s Assembly the Year 2 Class will receive certificates for their entries. Congratulations to Dougal White, Hugh Stratmann, Julia Murphy, Evie Kennedy, James Heazlewood, Charlie Hawthorne, Darcy Fleetwood and Will Bourke. Samples of their writing can be viewed on their classroom window!
Camp Brownlow Winners
At last week’s Assembly I was delighted to be able to announce the recipients of the Year 3 & 4 Camp Brownlow Certificates. These certificates were awarded by accumulating the votes of students to recognise camp contributors who were: listening carefully; showing respect to guides, teachers and parents; being cooperative; encouraging others; displaying fairness when playing games. The children voted as displaying these qualities most consistently were:
Year 4: Nicholas Hoskyns & Isabella O’Sullivan
Year 3: Ciaran Nelson & Sophie Merrin
Congratulations!

YEAR 4 CLASS ASSEMBLY & MATHS ICAS CERTIFICATES - NEXT TUESDAY 25th OCTOBER
EARLY START (10:00am)
Next week the Year 4 class leads our Assembly. We have a number of performances during this special assembly and ICAS Certificates to present, so we will commence our Assembly at a slightly earlier time - 10:00am. Our Assemblies are a celebration of learning, an opportunity for public speaking and a way to further strengthen our School and home relationships. We hope that you can join us.
Mathematics ICAS Competition
This week we received the result of the 2016 Mathematics ICAS Assessment and Competition for our Year 2 to 5 students. ICAS is an externally conducted assessment and competition delivered by the University of New South Wales. It is an opportunity for schools to track student progress using an external assessment tool to complement teacher data and is designed to highlight the achievements of strong performing students. Unlike normal papers, where 50% is deemed an ‘average’ or pass mark, ICAS papers are challenging with 30% of content aimed at the Year Level, the next 30% to be attained by students with an aptitude in the subject and the last 30% of the content is ‘extension’ material to highlight students who are able to apply their learning beyond year level expectations. It becomes increasingly difficult to attain Certificates of Merit as the students progress through the school, as the cohort they are competing against increases.
Congratulations to the following students:
Merit: Chloe Headlam, Skye Headlam & Amelie Hiscock (Year 3) Maggie Bourke, Nicholas Hoskyns & Meg Ogle (Year 4) Tobe Adamson (Year 5)
Credit: Will Bourke, Charlie Hawthorne & Evie Kennedy (Year 2) George Huf, Archer Lawrance & Sophie Merrin (Year 3) Charlie Beggs, Stirling Cuming, Libby Diprose, Olivia Mann & Jake Tonissen (Year 4) Lily Bradbeer, Ella Churchill, Charlotte Millear, Lachlan Rees & Macey Sanders (Year 5)
Distinction: Julia Murphy, Dougal White, (Year 2), Ben Walker, Minnie Walker, (Year 3), Samuel Lees & Luc Murphy, (Year 4)
The SRC Walk to School Initiative - Take Part!
We now have many of our students taking part in our Walk to School initiative. Some are walking up Kent Road and others are walking from their home to the farm gate, where they are then picked up by car to go to the bus. Unfortunately, we have had to stop a later bus from dropping the children at Pedrina Park to walk together – as they were arriving well after class began.
There is still time to collect Walk to School Points. On arriving at school, students should let the teacher on duty know they have walked all or part of the way and then they will gain a point. After a week’s worth of walks (they need not be on consecutive days), they can earn a sticker. After two weeks they will receive a certificate from VicHealth.
Lunch Order Bags
In order to maintain hygiene standards, please ensure your child removes all rubbish from their lunch bag before their next order. Bags also need to be cleaned regularly with a thorough wipe or put through the washing machine. If your child requires a fresh bag these can be purchased through Myrniong reception or the Uniform shop for $8.00.
Pre-Service Teacher Placements at Myrniong
Next week we welcome two Pre-Service Teachers to the Junior Campus. Miss Louisianna Hutchins and Miss Madison Donehue will be working alongside Miss Simone Brabham in the Year Four classroom for three weeks as a part of their Bachelor of Education with Federation University. I am sure that our students and families will make them feel welcome as they gain valuable experience under the capable guidance of Miss Brabham.
