Young Adult Literature:
One of the very enjoyable aspects of working in our library is seeing the wonderful selection of material published for young adult readers. Titles come into our collection from a range of sources, the most regular of which is from Lamont Books. Other suppliers, such as Warrnambool Books, bring us boxes of titles from which to select new material. Student recommendations and staff suggestions are also factored in to our selection process.
We subscribe to Lamont’s Standing Orders for all our students, and each selection is a joy to unpack. You can see all their titles for this year if you click on the link to the standing orders.
From time to time young adult fiction is celebrated locally. A flyer is attached for an opportunity to hear some authors speak about their work being hosted by Blarney Books in Port Fairy.
At the end of next month (Friday 25 November, 8pm) Hamilton people will get the opportunity to see Anh Do, author of The Happiest Refugee Live at the Perfuming Arts Centre. While this book is not specifically targeted at young adults, it is well read at the Senior Campus. Anh has also written some amusing books based on his childhood which are very funny.
If you would like to attend: Tickets: Adult $49.90, Concession $46.90, Group 10+ $46.90
Note: group priced tickets are not available online. Please contact the venue on 5573 0429.
Events such as these will be a great incentive to anyone attending to read more books, and the connections between reading and high academic results has been well documented.

JUNIOR LIBRARY:
Library: The posters are up! If your child is looking for a new book series to read, they need to have a look on the bulletin board outside the library! Lots of suggestions which include what age the series is appropriate for, what kind of book it is and a little blurb to sell it as an amazing book or series! No more excuses not to try new books everyone.
