Year 9 Visual Art

National Gallery of Victoria Excursion

Last term Miss. Irvine and Miss. Triance’s Year 9 Visual Art students headed into the city to visit the Keith Haring/Jean Michel Basquiat exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria. Whilst wandering the massive 6 room exhibition the year 9s were exposed to the unique street art and expressionistic styles of these significant New York Artists. Finding inspiration to create their own artworks once back at Greensborough College.

After the gallery students did some urban exploring; visiting some of the art filled alley’s that Mebourne is famous for. Students saw tributes to famous musicians in AC/DC Lane and wonderful posters and portraits in Duckboard Place.  The year 9s were even lucky enough to stumble upon a street artist creating on Hosier Lane- students were able to watch his process and ask him questions about his work!

During remote learning the students are working on a Keith Haring inspired project and are currently in the process of creating their own artworks from home.

(For anyone interested in visiting a gallery during this time the NGV is currently doing virtual tours)
