College Captains Message

Hello everyone,

Given our current situation, in lockdown, it is important to remember a few things, in order to remain healthy and hopeful at home.

It is imperative, during the COVID-19 outbreak, that everyone follows the lockdown protocol as set by the Government, and remains mindful of adhering to current advice and guidelines, to prevent unnecessary spread of the virus.

These times are challenging and new to navigate and we must remember that our current situation can bring about feelings of anxiety, sadness and isolation. Nobody is alone in this. Be kind to yourself and now, of all times, it is important to retain your social connections with friends and family. We are lucky in these times that we can rely on social media and technology to help us with this.

As school captains, we continue to work productively for the benefit of the student body and we would like to extend the following advice to all students, at this time:

  • Ensure that you get adequate sleep and remain in a routine. This can be managed by going to bed and waking up at the same time- day in, day out- which creates a sense of normality.
  • Create a routine that includes active breaks. Activity will help to keep your mind fresh and focused, which ensures that each day is productive. This will help to reduce stress.
  • Pursue new hobbies or projects that will keep you occupied. Such activities could include starting a new art project, gardening, cooking or reading.
  • Exercise for a minimum of 60 minutes per day. Take the dog for a walk or participate in simple exercises. Exercise releases endorphins in the brain contributing to a happy and positive mindset.

Also, participate in recreational activities such as playing board games with your family, watching movies together, playing your favourite sport outside or enjoying the nice weather, (from your backyard).

We hope you all take good care of yourselves.

Your 2020 College Captains, Elyssa, Ryan, Olivia and Jeremiah
