Message From Our

Principal

Dear Parents & Caregivers,

Well done to students, their families and teachers for another two weeks of remote learning. I know it is difficult and not what we were hoping for but it has been wonderful to see how everyone has managed and adapted to these changes with persistence and positivity.  Thank you.

Communication is important at this time and I remind parents that teachers are available to talk through any concerns. Please don’t hesitate to email your class teacher or contact me at school if you or your child needs any extra support. I know many of the children are very good at doing this themselves and particularly those in the senior areas are regularly emailing their teachers and classmates with questions and answers, which is great to see.

Routine seems to be the key and this is an important way families can help support remote learning. Each unit is able to log on and make contact with their teacher and classmates daily. Children are certainly becoming very skilled at this with many managing to do it with growing independence. Teachers are required to mark daily class rolls. If for some reason your child is unable to attend classes on a particular day, please notify that they will be absent in the usual way. Otherwise, your child is expected to be checking in with their teacher.

Some very valuable skills are developing during remote learning and it is wonderful to watch the children grow in independence as they begin to self-manage and make decisions about their own learning. I know this is not always without a few bumps along the way but I also know everyone is doing their best.

On Friday August 28th Sacred Heart will be engaged in a school review required by the Victorian Registrations and Qualifications Authority (VRQA).  In order to meet the required standards, we must provide strong evidence that our school provides good governance, strong financial management, effective curriculum, sound teaching practices and a safe environment for all children.  It has been a good opportunity over the past couple of months to look at, review and develop further our practices around these areas. Thank you to the staff and School Board who have assisted with the preparation. Following the Review, we will be provided with feedback as to how we can improve further on our practices.

Thursday and Friday, September 3rd and 4th of September have been allocated Pupil Free days.  This time will allow staff to conduct Student, Parent, Teacher Meetings via Google Meet.  We feel with the limited opportunity parents have had to come on site over the past two terms, allocating an extra meeting opportunity would be of great benefit to your child, their family and their teacher. Further information regarding the organisation of these meetings will be provided to you soon. There will be no online learning, onsite supervision or Out of School Hours Care on either of these days.

Matt Cameron and I are looking forward to meeting our 2021 Foundation students online in the coming weeks. It will be very different to meeting the children and their families face to face but we are very much looking forward to it. If you have not contacted the school for a meeting time yet please do so as this is a very important process in school transition. We are also looking forward to having all our new enrolments visit Sacred Heart as soon as we are able.

Congratulations to our students, Ruby Dainton, Yr 5, Japneet Kaur Yr 3, Sebastian Tartaglia Yr 3 and Emerson and Olivia Talarico, Foundation, who entered in the Transition Tatura’s Environmental Short-Film Competition 2020. It’s wonderful to see our students involved in these community events and learning and presenting their ideas in different forums. They were each awarded a well deserved Honourable Mention by the judges. Well done everyone.

A special congratulations to Seb whose film impressed the judges so much that he was awarded first prize in the Foundation –Year 3 age group. What a wonderful achievement.

May the Sacred Heart of Jesus continue to watch over our school community and bless us always.
