NEW PLAY AREAS

Dear Members of the Murrumbeena Primary School Community,

I hope this newsletter finds everyone well and coping during this most unusual Term 3.

While students are still working at home, we have been able to almost complete our new play areas.

These projects are a result of a number of years of fundraising, with our parents and the community working together to fundraise for our school and I am sure the students will be excited when they come back to see a new space for them to play in.

Overall, the new space, when completed, will cost approximately $130,000, with future projects to include a new bike storage area.

REMOTE LEARNING

As a school, we felt better prepared for this term’s Remote and Flexible Learning 2.0 and each week our staff are amazed at how adaptable most of our students have been. Our staff had a wonderful meeting last week where each year level shared some of the amazing submissions from our students and we were all very proud.

However, this does take effort. Effort, from the students, the staff members involved and most of all at the moment, the family.

We understand that each family has individual circumstances that may impact their child/children’s learning, but we do ask that you support the teachers who are sometimes having to send out daily and weekly reminders to a few whose children are not completing tasks and joining in with live lessons.

Teachers do need to keep evidence of each child’s learning for term 4 reports, and if there are reasons for work not being completed, please contact your child’s teacher so we can work out how else we can support you.

I encourage families who need help to contact their child/children’s teacher so that we are supporting individual needs where possible.

We are here to help and offer whatever support and adjustments we can to help meet everyone’s circumstances, which we know are varied and sometimes difficult.

Most families have commented on how settled the children are and how their children are now able to work a great deal more independently, which is fabulous to hear, but we do know they are missing their friends.

I have been asked a few times, “When will school return?” The short answer is, “I don’t know.” Hopefully, children will be allowed to return to school next term so they can have some sense of normality in their lives.

Please continue to keep an eye on Compass for updates.

ENROLMENTS FOR 2021

Just reminding families that enrolments are now being finalised for 2021.

Parents who are aware of friends, neighbours or relatives who have a child ready to start school in 2021, please let them know that enrolments are being completed and we are beginning to plan our transition program, even if that has to operate quite differently next term. Our lovely Lynne Dixon is working remotely on finalising all offers for positions in next year’s Prep classes. I am available to answer any questions and help with any information that may be needed, please email: murrumbeena.ps@education.vic.gov.au
