Students were tasked with preparing an infographic. Infographics use pictures and symbols to represent complex ideas and data so that information is clear and quickly accessible.

Satellite images
Students were aksed to analyse satellite images. Satellite images have become one of the most useful tools for geographers, as they provide a snapshot in time of a large area of the Earth’s surface. This allows us to identify patterns and changes over time, and to better understand the causes and effects of these patterns and changes.

Major Features Changes | These images contrast day and night views of the County Fire in Northern California on July 1, 2018. In the nighttime view, smoke is illuminated by a nearly full Moon. According to CAL FIRE, the County Fire comprised 32,500 acres as of 7 p.m. PDT on that date, and ultimately grew to 90,288 acres before it was completely contained. CAL FIRE law enforcement officers determined that an improperly installed part of an electric livestock fence caused the fire. |

Major Features Changes | The 2018 image shows portions of Denmark, Sweden, the Netherlands, Germany and Poland after a persistent heat wave turned typically green areas brown. For comparison, the 2017 image shows the same region about a year earlier. According to the European Space Agency, much of this part of the world turned brown in just a month, during which several countries experienced record high temperatures and low precipitation. |
