Cadet Report

Phil O'Keefe

The COVID 19 restrictions have had an impact on the Monivae Cadet program throughout this year with the cancellation of our annual May camp and impacting on our timetabled day 10, period 5 & 6 activities.

This disruption continues to have a bearing on the Cadet Program in 2020 as the COVID 19 restrictions have not allowed the cadet band and cadet platoons the required time to rehearse for the annual parade to be held on the 25 October 2020.

In consultation with both the Principal and Vice Principal I have made the decision to cancel this year’s scheduled Sunday Cadet Parade planned for the 25 October 2020.

Depending on restrictions at the time, I’m hoping to hold a modified parade during one of our timetable day 10 activities which will allow us to acknowledge the achievements of our cadets who have adjusted to the online cadet learning.

The cadet awards this year will be modified to be in line with this year’s cadet activities undertaken.

The senior leader’s cadet annual dinner is still in the planning stage and I’m hoping this event can occur, but, it may be held at a later date in the year.

I will provide more details in relation to these events at the commencement of term 4.

Good News Story

The College Leadership Group at a recent meeting has agreed to allow the current year 11 cadets to undertake cadets in year 12, if they wish, on application to the College.

The leadership Group have outlined parameters in which the year 12’s can undertake cadets in 2021. These parameters are based on the individual’s academic studies being a priority for 2021.

I am in support of these parameters which still gives those cadets in year 12 an opportunity to further develop their leadership skills within the cadet program.  For any 2021 Year 12’s wishing to seek further information in relation to being involved in cadets next year, I will be holding a meeting on our return in Term 4.  I will fully explain these parameters around your involvement with cadets next year, at this meeting.

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate those cadets who made themselves available to undertake the promotional online courses.  This was a great commitment by our cadets given that they were already undertaking remote learning and this added additional time in front of their computers. Well done and thank you.  Thank you to those senior cadets that undertook instructional roles supporting the cadet online promotional courses. You showed Initiative, Courage, Respect and Teamwork by supporting these courses.

In closing, I encourage our year 10 cadets who intend to continue in cadets next year to give thought to applying for our key cadet leadership roles, Adjutant and Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) for 2021. Applications will be made available to those interested in Term 4.

I look forward to being able to come together again in Term 4 as a Unit.

Enjoy your holidays, keep safe and well.
