From the Principal

Welcome to IPS

We have made it to the end of term 3.  It certainly took an unexpected turn and has been challenging but we got through!  Not only did we just get through we did it well.  It has been lovely to see all the students' work each week in the newsletter and we are seeing from preliminary assessments that our IPS students are progressing.  Remember:

IPS students didn't miss out on learning, they just learnt in a different way.

Take a look at the celebrations of learning this term in the year level pages.

Term 4

Week 1 October 5th - 9th

Remote learning will continue for all IPS students in week 1 of term 4.

For students requiring on-site attendance, strict eligibility criteria remains the same although arrangements may change subject to advice from the Victorian Premier and we will keep the community updated via Compass.

Week 2 October 12th -16th

Foundation, Grade 1 and Grade 2 students will return to onsite schooling in week 2 , while Grades 3-6 will continue with remote learning for a while longer.   With new daily COVID-19 cases continuing to go down, we hope that will signal an early return to school for the rest of the students.   Again, this will be based on advice from the Victorian Premier and  we will keep families updated.

With this in mind, we aim to create opportunities for positive transitions back to school with a strong focus in term 4,  on student wellbeing as well as Literacy and Numeracy.   Our teachers continue to refine their practice based on evidence in addition to parent feedback from our remote learning survey to ensure our students thrive in term 4!

Squiz Kids

If you needed evidence to prove just how adaptable children are to each learning environment, our year 5 and 6 students can happily show you.   They listen to Squiz Kids News Podcast daily and we’ve now had 3 “shoutouts” but earlier this week, Mabel T from 5B got a “SALUTE” a very special mention,

SQUIZ KIDS SALUTES

We’re going hyper local with today’s Squiz Kids Salute … recognising the work that a very special school student in Victoria is doing to keep her schoolmates’ spirits high as they trundle through yet another week of lockdown.
A great big salute to Mabel from class 5B at Ivanhoe Primary School. Her class listens to Squiz Kids every day, and each day they have to report back with something they’ve learned from the podcast – and offer an opinion on it. Mabel’s friends and teacher Mr Bull tell us that she writes a big report on each Squiz Kids episode every morning and posts it online even before school starts. They’ve become a class favourite. One of her classmates wrote to Mabel to tell her: “it’s like you are the Squiz Kids writer, you write AMAZING paragraphs and we all really enjoy reading them.”
We salute you Mabel. And just quietly: if you ever feel like stepping up and producing the odd episode of Squiz Kids so I can have a day off now and then … I’d salute you even more.

It doesn't end there.  The presenter of the Squiz Kids podcast has been approached by The Age who want to write an article on how students are engaging with the podcast for 'learning during lockdown'.  They have asked Mabel to be involved and Mr Bull will be speaking on behalf of 5B too!  What an achievement!  Keep an eye out for it to be published....

Kinder to Foundation Transition Program

We provide a comprehensive transition program in Term 4 so that new students and their families can become more familiar with the learning environment.

Our Foundation Transition program includes:

  • Virtual tours of the school and classrooms.
  • Transition information session for parents and carers
  • 3 transition sessions for children and concurrent information sessions for parents and carers

For many families in 2020 transition to school will look different than it has in previous years due to COVID-19. At this point in time we will be planning for two Transition session settings. The first will be that Transition sessions and information sessions will occur onsite. The second will be that Transition sessions and information sessions will occur online. We will communicate this to our families when decisions are made.

Transition Orientation Dates:

Session 1- Wednesday 14th October – 9:10-10:00am

Session 2- Thursday 12th November – 9:10-10:00am

Session 3- Tuesday 15th December – 9:10-10:30am – MEET THE TEACHER for 2021!

  • Evening Foundation Information/School Readiness Session where you will meet your child’s teacher on Monday 14th December at 7:00pm.

We look forward to connecting with you, as we prepare for the start of your child’s learning journey with us.

Book Week

This year's theme is Curious Creatures, Wild Minds.  Our organising team are giving plenty of notice to get costumes prepared for week 3 of term 4.  They have some exciting activities planned.

Random Act of Kindness

Thank you the family of Amy in FC - all the staff who come to work on-site at school really appreciate your kindness.

Understanding Wellbeing

Our teachers will be focussing on wellbeing at the start of term 4.  They will be using these six key elements to underpin conversations and activities to support the wellbeing of our students.

A message from Annabelle in 2W who reminds us that this isn't forever and to remain positive.

Finally

I want to take this opportunity to thank the staff for their dedication, hard work and expertise that they have shared over the term.  I also want to thank the wider IPS community for their continued support this term and I hand the baton back to Mark.  We are all looking forward to having Mark back on deck at the start of term 4, fully recovered from his knee surgery.

Have a happy and safe holiday break.

Stay safe and look after each other.
