Kids Corner

The Kids Corner section of this fortnight’s newsletter features something a little bit different, a gratitude email from one of our Year 6 students Anjali and also a beautiful poem by Anya who is also in Year 6.

Anjali’s’ email:

Dear Mr. Catalano,

I hope that this email finds you well and l just wanted to say thank you for letting me come to GWPS. At the start of the year, l was very nervous about starting a new school but my classmates immediately put me at ease with their friendly nature and inclusivity. You could not have provided me with a better teacher, as Mr. Edwards is not only patient but is genuinely interested in helping me learn, which is one of the best qualities a teacher could have. I definitely think that I am much more prepared for high school, which was the point of taking an additional year.

I would highly recommend GWPS to anybody as it has great staff and students and a positive learning environment. Once again, thank you very much for letting me be at GWPS as l couldn't have asked for a better place.

I hope you take some time to relax as it has been such a busy time for you. Thank you for all you do.

Sincerely,

Anjali

Below is my reply:

Hi Anjali and thank you for your lovely email.

Just the other day I had a visitor in our school and they read the card your mum and you wrote for me. I explained how you have joined our school with the purpose of further preparing for secondary school and the visitor was most impressed.

However I proceeded to tell them that the impressive part of all of this was the fact that you were prepared to do so and have showed the most amazing amount of courage and resilience from Day One! Something that I know Mr Edwards, your family and I are very proud of. I sincerely hope that you are also proud of yourself.

I am also very confident that you are now ready to transition to secondary school and will be a very successful learner as you have all of the attributes to succeed. I certainly look forward to seeing you at our alumni events and also hearing from you as you share all of the wonderful things you will achieve in your life. I certainly will be forever grateful that you were a part of the 2020 Year 6 cohort and a member of the GWPS family forever, one thing that you probably haven’t heard me say yet is, “Once you are a part of the GWPS family, you are always part of the GWPS family!”

Thanks again for writing Anjali as that means so much to me and also shows just how far you have come and grown.

Take care, enjoy the school holidays and please say hi to everyone in your family from me.

Ps. I look forward to seeing you when you return to school.

A Covid - 19 Poem from Anya

Staying inside wearing aprons, gloves or masks
Without having fun completing our daily tasks
With no friends to playIsolation is the worst is all we can say
Oh please COVID-19 don’t stay
So we can see the difference between a Wednesday and Sunday
We want our old lives again
So together we can spend our savings at the Glen
We promise will show gratitude to all
But before that we really want to go to the movie hall
We are tired of seeing the same four walls
And we are fed up of talking by calls
The only exciting thing to do now is going for a walk
But some of us are even too scared to go around the block
The premier is in the news a lot these days
Because of his restrictions some of us have become a laze
Although he is trying his best to help us
Some people don’t listen and disobeyed the rules he discuss
Although a few good things have come from this pandemic
Like some of us have been studying to become more academic
We have realise that family matters most
And have even learnt how to make a toast
There are a few things we have taken away from this virus
But we want it finished to end this silence
