PYPX 2020 (Week 2)

Home Learning

Welcome to Exhibition Week 2. The students have begun the Exhibition process with enthusiasm and excitement and are well underway in preparing for their research. This week, students focused on setting up with Mentor google classroom groups and looked at different ways of creating interesting questions. Next week, they will organise to have their first two sessions with their Mentors and finish off their question work, ready to begin researching.

Students will also be completing their Fountas and Pinnell Reading tests this week with their teachers. This needs to be completed individually. The teachers will send out a timetable outlining what time your child's test will be. This will be completed in place of the Maths and Reading Mini-lessons.

We thank you for your continued support and please don't hesitate to contact us via compass with any questions or queries.

GOOGLE MEET SESSIONS:

NOTE: It is a requirement for all students to attend their Google Meet sessions each day.

Information about your child's Google Meet sessions will be posted on their individual class Google Classrooms. These sessions may vary in time and length over the following weeks as we work through the beginning stages of Exhibition. It is an expectation that your child attends their sessions each week.

English

Reading

This week the student's will be introduced to paraphrasing to help them with the Exhibition process. Paraphrasing is important because it shows that the children  understand the source well enough to write it in their own words.

Writing

For the next few weeks, the writing work will be focused on supporting the Exhibition tasks. This week, students will begin to develop the questions they will use to guide their Exhibition research. Students will then share their best questions with their mentor and teacher for feedback, before writing them in your booklet.

Mathematics

The students will continue with their focus on Patterns and Algebra. This week, they will learn about algorithms. They will practise using algorithms when following a set of instructions. They will then practise using algorithms to complete a wide range of simple coding tasks.

The students should be working through their My Numeracy goals, as well as using Mathletics and Prodigy if they have time.

Unit of Inquiry

For the first week of Exhibition, students will be focusing on, unpacking the exhibition booklet. This means you they will through the booklet as it outlines everything you need to know about the exhibition process. Student will be researching a rage of important primary and secondary resources to support their inquiry. Students will also write their essential agreement. Either as an individual or as a group.

Contact

We encourage and celebrate student voice in Grade 6. If students have any concerns or questions, they can comment or post on either the whole cohort or individual class Google Classrooms. Teachers receive notifications when students post and will respond when possible. Students should also communicate questions and ideas relating to learning with each other using the two Google Classrooms. This will keep them connected and allow them to see each other's progress.

If you have any questions or concerns, please email your child’s teacher through compass.

Reminders

Children must have Google Classroom notifications turned on to ensure they are receiving communications from their classroom teacher and their peers. It would be useful if students checked the Google Classroom each day, both in the morning and again in the afternoon, to see if new information or tasks have been added.

Specialist Team

The Specialist team will be organising tasks for the students and these are shared on the students' weekly timetable. Please contact Mrs Travis or Mrs Goosey if you have any questions.

Hearing Unit

Parents of Hearing Unit students, please continue to refer to your child’s weekly HU program. Please contact your child’s Teacher of the Deaf with any queries.
