Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

Term 3 seems to be going by so quickly, despite the fact we are restricted in what we can do. While student growth in faith and improvement in learning remains a priority, we have not been able to enjoy many of the extra-curricular activities that bring an additional element of fun and a sense of community for students.

Over the last week, I have met with staff, School Captains, and House Captains to plan a few activities that students can look forward to for the remainder of the year. Hygiene measures and distancing between stage groups will be an important part of our planning so that students can enjoy themselves while remaining safe.

Unfortunately, parents and carers are still not able to enter the school, and it is with sadness that we cannot physically include you.  In Term 4, parents will be invited to the school assemblies online. Many of the activities below will also be well reported in the school newsletter.

For our Kindergarten parents and families new to the school, information about each activity will be included in future newsletters.

Year 6 Farewell

After 7 years of Primary school, our Year 6 students will be farewelled at the end of the year. Traditionally, Year 6 celebrate an evening Mass followed by a supper at school with parents. On the last day of school, they go to the beach pool and return to school to be farewelled by the school community.

This year we hope to provide similar opportunities but with variations according to the health advice at the time. The Mass and supper will go ahead at this stage but will not be attended by parents. The school will also host a morning breakfast BBQ for Year 6 students on their last day at St Joseph's.

Planning the Year 6 Farewell

In previous years, a group of volunteer parents has met with me to plan and prepare for the Year 6 farewell. Any parents interested in joining the planning group should contact the school office.

For all things at St Joseph’s, give thanks!

Principal

Happy Father's Day to our Wonderful Dads

I hope that Sunday is a day for all of us to be grateful for Dad's or those men who are significant in the lives of our students.

A special mention and cheer for Father Patrick on Father's Day. He is one of those significant men in the life and faith formation of all of us. We thank him ever so deeply for his presence and care at St Joseph's.

For all our dads, grandfathers, or special men in the lives of students at St Joseph’s, we give thanks!

To all of our dads on staff, have a great day with your families.

What Should I Do If My Child Is Returning To School With A Significant Injury?

The care and safety of a student with a significant injury while at school is important.

Parents of a student who has sustained an injury such as a broken or badly sprained arm,  leg or leg or foot injury requiring a boot or crutches, and cannot participate in normal school or sports activities, must present the school with a Medical Certificate signed off by a third party Medical Practitioner prior to returning to school.

The certificate must state that the student is medically fit to attend school, the activities he/she is able to participate in and the activities the child should not participate in.

Once the certificate is received the school will conduct a risk assessment for the student before the child can return to school. Until the risk assessment is completed, injured students as described above will not be able to attend class.

The Risk Management Plan will remain in place at school until a further medical certificate is provided clearing the student to resume normal school activities.

I ask that parents adhere to this process as school staff must adhere to Work, Health, and Safety requirements.

When do students go into summer uniform?

Students change from winter to summer uniform on the Monday following Father’s Day, 7 September.

Parents may use their discretion as to which uniform their child/ren wear this week, and in the 2 weeks following the change-over should the weather be too cold or too hot.

Girl's School Uniform

Summer

Blue school pattern tunic, white above ankle length school socks,  black polishable leather shoes.

New Option: This option includes a navy coloured culotte (now in stock at Lowes) and a custom school blouse with a school logo (see diagram). Lowes has advised that they are confident stock of the blouse will be in store from Monday 28 September.

Sports

Navy shorts, school sports polo shirt with crest, school tracksuit (jacket and pants), white above ankle-length socks and predominantly white joggers with white laces.

Note: The sports jacket is only to be worn on sports days with the sports uniform. On very cold days it may also be worn with the summer or winter uniform but over the school sloppy-joe. The school sloppy-joe should be the first choice for warmth.
