NAIDOC Week

For Our Elders

One of the most significant dates on the calendar is NAIDOC Week and our school dedicated a day of acknowledgement and celebration to honour this significant week.

National NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year (Sunday to Sunday), to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples - recognising them as the Traditional Owners of the land.

Our school came together to celebrate by hosting our families and members of our community through a series of fun activities, educational experiences and lots of fun!

All staff and students were reminded that our Aborginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are bearers of one of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.

This year, the National NAIDOC Theme is FOR OUR ELDERS.

We learned that across every generation, Aboriginal Elders have played, and continue to play, an important role and hold a prominent place in our communities and families.

At JBHS, we pay our respects to the Elders we’ve lost and to those who continue fighting for us across all our Nations and we pay homage to them.

NAIDOC Week is a time to be proud, to reflect and to celebrate the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, recognising them as the ongoing Custodians of the land.
