Year Adviser Updates
Years 10, 11 and 12
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We have welcomed Year 10 back to a busy start of Term 2.
The Year 10 cohort participated in their first round of the Minimum Standards Testing. Students needed to have demonstrated an achievement of Level 3 in the fields of Reading, Writing and Numeracy. Students who reached this, will now be able to be awarded their NSW Higher School Certificate following the successful completion of both the Preliminary and HSC courses in their chosen subject. For the students who were not successful in this first round will have multiple opportunities in Years 10, 11, 12 to gain their NSW Higher School Certificate. As a whole the students conducted themselves in a respectful and mature manner and were awarded with some exceptionally pleasing results.
On Thursday, 18th of May we had a group of students who are part of the Fast Forward program visit the campus of Western Sydney University to participate in mentoring activities with current university students and staff. Students were able to discover their learning style and their strengths that will aide them in picking subjects for Year 11. The students once again were wonderful ambassadors of James Busby High School and upheld the school values in a brilliant manner.
Every fortnight, we have held year meetings where students have been reminded about the expectations and requirements for successfully receiving the ROSA. I have been keeping an eye on the unfortunately rising number of N-Awards that Year 10 are starting to accumulate. Students have been urged to try to clear their N-awards as they risk receiving a N-determination and not receiving their ROSA. They have been reminded that their teachers can support them in clearing the N-awards and they also have the option of going to Study Centre after school on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons in the library with parental permission.
Lastly, I would like to acknowledge the students that go above and beyond with their studies and attitude and thank them for being the positive role models for the cohort and the rest of the school. This was made evident by the increased numbers of students in Year 10 electing to take part in the Wellbeing Ambassador Program.

Parents and Guardians of Year 11
The Year 11 students continued to make progress with their Preliminary courses this term, with the students now passing the half way point of their coursework.
The students will complete their Year 11 coursework by the end of next term. From this the students will then complete a compulsory exam for each of their subjects. These exams will be conducted in the school gym and will follow NESA exam guidelines.
To ensure that the students are reaching their academic potential we encourage parents and guardians to remind students the importance of attending school daily and being on time, as well as applying diligent effort in all their lessons and being respectful to the teaching staff and their peers.
To support the Year 11 students to revise classwork and prepare for their exams the school’s Study Centre is opened Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at the school’s library between 3pm to 5pm. The Study Centre is staffed by multiple staff members and students will be able to access the school’s computers and internet.
To assist the Year 11 students on being productive and present in their lessons, students are recommended to keep their mobile phones at home or locked in their Yondr pouches. It is a school expectation that every student brings their Yondr pouch to school.
Students have now placed their orders with Reform Clothing to purchase their senior jackets and/or jerseys. It is hoped that delivery of these goods will be in October, at the start of Term 4, when the students officially start their HSC coursework.

Year 11 Advisers
Dear Parents and Students,
As we approach the end of this term, we want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible achievements of our Year 12 cohort.
We extend our deepest gratitude to the fundraising committee for their unwavering commitment and hard work. Their efforts have been instrumental in ensuring our formal, yearbook, and graduation will be a resounding success. A special thank you also goes out to the yearbook committee for their exceptional work in capturing the precious memories and milestones of our Year 12 students.
We would also like to congratulate our prefects on their outstanding leadership. Their successful hosting of the Prefect Afternoon Tea, welcoming other prefects from around the Liverpool area, was a testament to their organisational skills and dedication. We are grateful for the opportunity to have been there to support and supervise the event.
As the term draws to a close, we wish our Year 12 students a restful break as they prepare for the upcoming HSC Trial examinations in Weeks 5 and 6 of next term. We also express our sincere appreciation to the parents for their continued support and encouragement throughout this journey.
Lastly, we can hardly believe that there is only one term left of their schooling lives. The anticipation and excitement are palpable as we approach the culmination of this incredible journey. We are incredibly proud of our Year 12 students and look forward to celebrating their achievements together.
Wishing everyone a safe, enjoyable, and restful break.
