Years 7 - 9

Year 7

Dear Parents, Carers and Year 7 students,

Here we are marking the end of another term with the remarkable achievements, engaging activities, and valuable learning experiences that filled Term 2.

The Haka Warriors program has continued throughout the term, this cultural enrichment initiative aimed at celebrating and embracing the rich heritage of our Pasifika students is going strong. Through this program, our students can connect and learn the importance of their cultural diversity. We are delighted to witness the enthusiasm and respect our Year 7 Pasifika students continue to demonstrate whilst participating in this program. Sarafina Siulepa should be commended for her dedication; the facial expressions accompanying her dance moves are truly mesmerising.

Sarafina Siulepa has been conducting herself in a powerfully graceful manner at Haka Warriors.

Another impressive Pasifika dancer is Samantha Mu, who not only is a part of Haka Warriors, but also represented our school with the very talented group of dancers from a range of grades at the Synergy Dance Festival. Ms Mamissa and I were so proud, as we cheered on and watched our amazing JBHS dance troupe.

Term 2 also allowed for our lucky Year 7 girls to be included in the Girls’ Education Program, which provided a supportive space for our female students to explore and excel in various pursuits that they felt passionate about. The program aimed to empower our girls, fostering leadership skills, self-confidence and a strong sense of identity.

We are thrilled to announce that several of our Year 7 students participated in Cross Country and progressed further for the Athletics Carnival events that were held last term, including Dania Tebbo, Lachlan Murphy, Ethan Singh, Cooper Donnelly, Rani Komer, Ryan Nguyen, Megan Huynh and Jamie Heffey. Some of our students even progressed further to Zone and Regional! These events provide an excellent opportunity for our students to showcase their athleticism, teamwork and perseverance. We encourage all students to participate and give their best efforts.

Dania Tebbo, Lachlan Murphy, Rani Komer, Ethan Singh, Ryan Ngyuen, Jamie Heffey & Cooper Donnelly flexed their athletic prowess during the Cross Country and Athletic Carnival events.

In line with our commitment to fostering a safe and inclusive school environment, we were excited about ‘Backflips Against Bullying’. This program aimed to raise awareness about the negative effects of bullying and promoted positive relationships among students. Through engaging activities, workshops, and discussions, our students took a stand against bullying.

Hayat Abboud, Rani Komer, Selena Muniz, Tanish Nadan, Shalom A-Palepua, Acton Tran, Venn Bui, Ivana Toa, Jerrick Le, Almoatasem Safwah & Liam Dinh take a stand against bullying.

We would like to extend our gratitude to Souths Cares for their ongoing support and partnership. We greatly value their commitment to the betterment of education and the overall welfare of our students. Mia Green, Paige Andrews and Copper Donnelly had the awesome opportunity to perform at the NRL Indigenous Round, South Sydney Rabbitohs V Parramatta Eels evening.

We would like to acknowledge and congratulate the students who have exemplified our school values of excellence, equality, respect, and safety throughout Term 2. Mohamed Bazih and Noor Alkaaby were recognised and awarded for their continued effort. These students have consistently demonstrated outstanding behaviour, positive attitudes, and a commitment to upholding our school's values. We are proud of their achievements and encourage them to continue being role models for their peers.

Mohamed Bazih & Noor Alkaaby always uphold the school values of excellence, equality, respect & safety.

Of course, many of our Year 7 students consistently make good choices. Each week Ms Mamissa and I are inundated with the merit certificates that our Year 7 students receive from their class teachers, we then conduct a fortnightly draw, our winners have included Natalia Jabar, Uli Sem-Aliiva'a, Sedra Alawamah, Megan Huynh and Asiya Darwich.

Natalia Jabar & Uli Sem-Aliiva'a have been impressing their teachers.

Now that we are in the midst of the colder months, please ensure that students have warm clothes in our school colours; plain, warm, navy blue clothes are in abundant supply. We kindly remind all students to adhere to the school's uniform policy. Wearing the correct uniform is essential as it helps foster a sense of belonging, pride, and equality among our students. We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring that students come to school in their proper uniforms.

Furthermore, regular attendance is crucial for academic success. We urge all parents and guardians to ensure that their child attends school every day unless they are unwell or have a valid reason for their absence. Consistent attendance helps students stay on track with their learning, establish routine, and build essential social connections with their peers. If your child is unable to attend school, please inform the school office via phone, email or absenteeism note when your child returns to school. Well done to some of our Year 7 students who have received a 100% attendance award, this includes Rani Komer, Cooper Donnelly and Fares A Belal.

We look forward to another productive and enjoyable term ahead. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.

Thank you for your continued support!

Best regards,

Mrs Fioramonte and Ms Mamissa

Year 8

Well done, Year 8!

Another stellar term from what I can say, without any bias at all, is the best grade in the whole school! If the number of merits that have been handed into me is anything to go by, Year 8s have had an extremely successful term!

This term we have Year 8s participate in many different activities! Year 8s have enjoyed the Haka Warriors program, dance groups and Zone Athletics! I had the privilege to watch some of our fantastic Year 8 First Nations students perform at the NRL Indigenous round earlier this term as part of the Souths Cares program. Our fabulous Year 8 students performed before the South Sydney Rabbitohs took on the mighty (and victorious) Parramatta Eels at Allianz Stadium. I was so proud to watch our students perform with hundreds of their peers on such a large stage. They represented our school and their community with pride.

I encourage all our wonderful Year 8 kids to begin each school morning together at our Breakfast Club! What better way to start your day at school than with a free, nutritious breakfast shared with your buddies! Breakfast Club operates every morning next to A-block and is open to all students from ~7:45am – 8:40am. See you there!

Finally, I’d like to wish a warm Eid Mubarak to everyone celebrating together with their families at the end of term!

Have a fantastic and hard-earned break this holiday, Year 8! Looking forward to another fabulous term ahead!

See you then,

Ms Hall and Mr Sanchez-Castro
