Senior School Information Evening

On Tuesday the 18th of July the doors were opened to welcome students and their families the opportunity to hear what the 2024 year has in store for them with an Apprenticeship/Traineeship Information Session and our annual Senior School Information Evening.

Thank you to all the families who attended, the event was certainly well attended and we hope that students and families received lots of beneficial information.

A special Thank You to our guests from VECCI Apprenticeships Centre, Federation University, Head Start Apprenticeship/Traineeships, AGA, TAFE Gippsland, Jobs & Skills Centre, it was great having all of these groups present to help students and their families explore the variety of pathway options available to students.

Students who were unable to attend the evening will have all received their packs which contain essential information to assist with navigating the year ahead and we encourage families to go through this information together. The Senior School Handbook has been uploaded to the school website and again, we encourage students and families to read this document over carefully.

Following on from this we move straight into Course Counselling for Years 9, 10 and 11 students.

  • 20th July                            Year 11 to 12 Counselling sessions
  • 21st July                             Year 9 to 10 Counselling sessions
  • 25th July                            Year 10 to 11 Counselling sessions

The start of August ramps up for our year 12 students where they begin their VTAC course selections, SEAS and Scholarship application journey and embark on their final term of school at MNSC.

With so many deadlines and important events occurring, we encourage students and their families to regularly check Compass Newsfeeds and where required, act in a timely manner.

Morrisby Careers Assessments – Year 9 students

In May, students undertook their Morrisby Career Assessments, designed to help them learn more about themselves including their values, preferences, and skills to give them a better understanding of where their strengths lie. These personal insights help open a variety of possible career pathways, specifically tailored to who they are.

The next stage is to share what they have discovered. This discussion will help them to set realistic goals and start putting actions in place. Next week, students will undertake a one on one 30-minute appointment with an independent career counsellor to discuss their ideas and thoughts.

Work Experience Week (11th Sep – 15th Sep) – Year 10

It is expected that all Year 10 students will participate in this 5-day Work Experience Program.  Work experience allows students to gain insights into the industry and the workplace in which they are located. It provides students with a valuable opportunity to develop employability skills, explore possible career options, understand employer expectations, and increase their self-understanding, maturity, independence, and self-confidence. The more work experience a student can undertake the better – school holiday work experience is highly recommended. (Students must still complete a Department of Education Work Experience form.)

Students are required to source their own work experience placement. Doing this provides students with an opportunity to develop their communication skills, initiative and ‘real world’ experiences. Should students have any issues or difficulties in gaining a work experience placement they can be supported through this by their teachers and Nicole in the Pathways Office (located in the Senior Centre).

Once students have found a placement, they may obtain Work Experience forms from the Senior Centre.

Please discuss work experience placement with your child and encourage them to ‘have a go’ at calling and speaking with employers.

All work experience arrangement forms must be returned to the Pathways Office by Friday 25th of August, otherwise students will not be able to participate. Should students not make a Work Experience arrangement, then the expectation is students will attend school as usual.
