Dear Parents and Carers,

It has been a huge few weeks at Somerville Primary School. Firstly, I would like to thank all of the parents and community members who came to our Open Afternoon on Friday; it was wonderful to have everyone back into the classrooms and for our students to share their outstanding work. As part of our Leadership in Sustainability and Environmental Science Education, Mr Williams has taken our Environmental Leaders to the Resource Smart Schools Awards, at the MCG today. We had a team represent us at the Tyabb Rotary ISAC STEM challenge; all students did extremely well and we came in the top 5.

Well-done to our Year 5-6 students for their efforts with the Lightning Premiership. At a recent Principal forum, I received a number of reports from other schools, expressing their positive praise for our student’s sportsmanship, confidence, respect and kindness. All our students clearly demonstrated their ability to Shine! Our Grade 3 student headed off to Moonlit Sanctuary as part of their Inquiry unit into Australian native animals.

All student reports will be available as of Monday at 4pm on Sentral. Parent Teacher Interviews have been scheduled in for Term 3, there will be information around booking these sent home next week. I’ve read all of the reports and our students’ learning growth has been exceptional. All of our students, parents and families should be extremely proud.

Somerville Primary School has been asked to present at a recent Peninsula Principal Forum, sharing, and showcasing the outstanding results of our students in Grade 5, alongside the professional learning and impact our teachers have had over the last 18 months. This led to the highest results our school has recorded in the history of NAPLAN.

Don’t forget next Friday we are finishing at 2:30pm as it is the last day of Term.

Have a great weekend.

David and Shane
