PLT Spotlight

Year 2

Wow what a great start to term 3 the year 2 students have had.  Last week we were lucky enough to go on our very first community excursion to Clyde CFA.  The Year 2 learnt lots about what firefighters need to do when they are called out to a fire.  Year 2s were also taught how they should act and what number to call.  Year 2s got to explore the fire truck as well as different equipment such as breathing apparatus, thermal detector and spotlight.  Year 2s even got the chance to test out the fire trucks giant hose!  We learnt the difference between an urban fire truck and a rural fire truck and how they are different.

Another highlight for our year 2s was the fire helmet display, so many questions were asked about why the differing styles helmets?  Did the different colours of helmets mean anything?  From these questions we learnt that they actually did mean something.  The coloured patterned hats determined the rank of the fire fighter.

We would like to thank Mrs Lumley, Simone Armstrong, Stephanie Harrip and the staff at Clyde CFA for assisting our students on this excursion, your support is greatly appreciated.  We all had a fantastic time.
