Writing Competition
Last term, as part of our Education Week festivities, we held a whole school Writing Competition. It was terrific to see a number of students participating and I was particularly proud to have read a number of persuasive writing pieces and narratives (stories). Winners were selected late last term and presented at our assembly on the last day of term. Congratulations to the following winners:
Production Badge Design Competition
As our whole school production gets closer, we have lots of exciting things happening at the school to get students involved. Each production year, we run a badge design competition. One student from each year level will have their design chosen by our student representative council to be featured as a badge that will be able to be purchased by students. Each student will receive an entry sheet from their classroom teacher and they will be given some time to work on it at school. They can also choose to take it home and work on it there. The due date for all entries is Friday the 18th of August. Badges will go on sale early in Term 4.
Here are some examples of previous badge winners from our ‘Time Flies’ production
Staffing News
We are excited to have 3 new members of staff who have joined the Clyde PS Team at the end of Term 2, please read their introductions below. Make sure you say hello if you see them around the school.
On other news, we would like to congratulate Mrs Jasmine Bastone and her husband, Alex, who recently announced they are pregnant and expecting their first child in November. We also congratulate Mrs Naomi Maia and her family who are expecting their second child in January. We also welcomed back Ms Kellie Davis, who is returning part-time from Family Leave.
Staff Welcomes
My name is Brock, and I am very excited to be working as an Education Support at Clyde Primary for 2023. I have worked in the education system for several years and love
working in the school environment. I am a passionate Hawks, Mancity and Chicago Bulls fan. I used to play football and basketball representatively, however, I have hung up the boots. I am still involved in basketball through coaching, so if you see me around the courts make sure you say hello. I am also a massive Star Wars fan who has way too many Star Wars collectables (according to my family!). I look forward to getting to know and work with everyone in the Clyde Primary School community.
May the force be with you!
Hi, my name is Nicole Murnane and I am the new F-2 Physical Education teacher at Clyde Primary School. I am really excited to get to know the junior members of the school and help them develop a passion for staying fit and healthy while keeping active. I have been a teacher for 18 years and have spent the last 15 years at my previous school in Berwick. It’s very exciting and a little daunting starting at a new school after so long so please feel free to say hi and come and have a chat as I love getting involved with the school community!
I am the Mum of two gorgeous boys, Lucas (8) and Oliver (5), who keep me very busy with their love of football, soccer and swimming. In my spare time I try my best to keep fit and
healthy by going for walks, runs, swims and bike rides. Last year I competed in my very first triathlon and although it was challenging, I loved it and plan to do more this summer. I’m also a mad Bombers supporter and get to the games on the weekend whenever I can. Looking forward to seeing you around!
Hi! My name is Jessie Baldwin and I am delighted to be in Foundation as Education Support for the rest of 2023. I am currently finishing a diploma in counselling and have a
passion for wellbeing in a school setting. My hobbies are reading and exploring the world around me with my 2 wonderful children. I also have a large, fun collection of pins, that the foundation kids have enjoyed recognizing and asking to see which new pin I am wearing
that day. I am excited to continue getting to know the students and to be a part of the Clyde community.
After School Reminder
A reminder to all parents of the importance of discussing with your child the expectations of after school routines. For example, if you allow them to walk home ensure you are clear on which way you expect them to walk, reminders about crossing roads, stopping at shops or the park on the way home. While we have staff responsible for monitoring the front gates of the school until 3:45pm, beyond that time they will not be actively supervised, particularly, if they have left the school grounds. If you are unable to collect your child from school at pick up time, we do have after school care available with Team Kids.
Camp
Next week, our Year 5 & 6 students are off to camp for 2 nights at Waratah Bay Beach Camp. Camps are an important part of the learning experiences of our students from Year 3-6, providing important social and emotional development opportunities for students that are often not available in the classroom. These might include teamwork, resilience and confidence-building through challenge, problem-solving, connecting with nature, creative and imaginative play and coordination and strength. We also recognise that a number of parent helpers volunteered to attend. We will publish some photos of the camp in our next fortnight's newsletter.
Our Year 3 & 4 Camp is also coming up quickly from 16-18th August, where students will be staying at The Portsea Camp.
100 Days of Foundation
On 14th August our Foundation students reach a once in a life time milestone – 100 days of school for the very first time! On this very special day, they will participate in fun learning activities that relate to the number 100. Foundation students will also be encouraged to come to school dressed as a person who is 100 years old. Costume ideas could include white hair, glasses, wrinkles, walking stick, shirt, tie, long dress etc.
Book Week 2023
Our annual whole school Book Week Parade, will be held on Friday 25th August at 9:15am. We encourage all students and families to start thinking about making their book character costume at home, which they will wear for the parade on the morning.
No School - Monday 28th August
A reminder that we have a Curriculum Day on Monday 28th August.
