Principal's Report

Dear Parents/Guardians and friends of Nazareth

Welcome back to the beginning of Semester 2. The great news is that our students will be able to utilise the new Hospitality Centre commencing next week. It is going to be a fantastic addition to the learning areas that we already have on offer. In the coming month, we hope that these facilities can be utilised by all of our Community, especially with the up and coming Nazareth Day celebrations on Thursday 24 August 2023.

This semester we have been blessed with additional staff. These staff members will enhance our program and further support all students. Over the next couple of additions, you will read a brief profile about each of our new staff and their role at Nazareth:

  • Learning Support Officers - Elisha Duckett, Eliza Hastings & Samantha Xistras;
  • Teachers - Sheryl Paton (McAuley Head of House), Joanne Ho (EAL), Jack Hughes, Linda Smith and Geoff Earle (instrumental);
  • Tutors - Bec Schilling and Aaron Ng;
  • Counsellor – Brooke Lockhart;
  • Marketing – Jerry Penny;
  • Accounts – Melissa Hilton.

This semester we have reopened our Intensive English school Bridging Program. This allows international students to study the English language, Australian culture, and their traditions for twenty (20) weeks. It is an intensive course aimed at improving their English vocabulary. We welcomed thirteen (13) international students from five (5) countries into the program (Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, Cambodia, Vietnam and China).

Ms Marilyn Robert is our new International Coordinator and is well supported by Ms Bernadette Bryant, our College Registrar and Mrs Suzanne Hately-Smith, our Homestay Coordinator. Together, they will assist the transition of our international students and their studies.

On a practical note, we have begun planning for the 2024 school year. Each year level has attended subject selection assemblies this week, with course outlines and documentation now available via the College webpage: https://www.nazareth.vic.edu.au/subject-selection/. In the coming weeks, there will be parent meetings to assist families with their decision making regarding subject selection.

Next Thursday 20 July, Nazareth will host a Staff Recruitment Evening organised by the College Leadership team. This is an opportunity for educational staff to come and hear about what Nazareth has to offer and for them to show their expression of interest for future employment. If you know of anyone that may be interested, please direct them to our webpage - https://www.nazareth.vic.edu.au/specialevents/.

In conclusion, I invite all parents/carers to ensure that you save the date for the VCE and VCE Vocational Major Student Progress Meetings (25 July) and Year 7-10 Student Progress Meetings(14 Sept). Both events will be run via ZOOM. We have opted for ZOOM interviews in the second half of the year to make it easier for our families.

Have a wonderful fortnight.

Keep safe, and God bless

Mr Sam Cosentino

Principal
