World Cup Final: France Vs Germany
As the whole of Australia cheers on the Matildas, Uni High were thrilled to host our very own World Cup Final.
The passion and flare of Les Bleus came up against the discipline and hard work of Die Mannschaft.
Before the game, the players lined up and sang their national anthems with gusto, as the opportunity to represent their language department came along so seldom in a player’s career.
The game exceeded all expectations. The French had the better of the earlier exchanges with Bino Nguyen tormenting the German defence time and time aagin but it wasn't until the second half when an ambitious scissor kick by Termana Mitchell nestled in the German net. One Nil to Les Bleus!
With time running out and throwing caution to the wind, the Germans slowly turned the tide and wave after wave of attack resulted in a well deserved equalizer by Leroy Hinds just before the full time whistle.
And so the World Cup Final would be decided on penalties.
The Germans held their nerves and a fine save by the German goalkeeper, Noah Tortosa from Elouan Blouin Hussen meant the Jules Rimet trophy goes to the German department for 2023.
No doubt the French will lick their wounds and come back stronger next year.
A massive thanks to Mr Wong for arranging the teams and kits and making the whole event run so smoothly.
Mr Tiernan was impeccable in his refereeing and definitely not biased towards Germany in any way shape or form.
Auf Wiedersehen / Adieu from LOTE week 2023 and we’ll see you all again for the rematch in 2024.
